Why not do both (your own community AND creating awareness about other communities at the same time)
If you want to get the world to know about such projects, be one. Doing speaks much louder than all the video content and ‘awareness’ in the world.
Lead by example. I know you guys can do this, don’t give up now!

Wow I love that there is a blog post on this topic. This whole “to give or not to give” has been haunting my mind for years now. I’m not quite sure if I take random passerby’s into a big part of my decision, there no doubt are social mechanism at work. Yet when I’m completely alone I make the same choices. 99% of the time I don’t give anything. Heck I only give people something if they provide value, like playing an instrument. So I have to disagree with you for now on the idea that our behaviour is formed by our environment at the moment the beggar enters the scene. I think our behaviour is formed by our principles – mine are at least. Those principles may be formed in turn by an accumulation of opinions of others and significant moments in one’s life. This got me thinking to write an article on my own website on this topic. Thank you for bringing this under the HEthens’ attention :)

Great talks Martijn, but I understand TED filtered these out for ‘image’ purposes or something… it’s just that they wouldn’t ‘fit in’ with the rest of the TED talks. They’re hella interesting though!

is it normal that it kinda hurts to breath in so much air so fast that it hurts my throat/bronchial tubes? How fast is it? 30 x ‘balloon blowing” = 30 sec?

Great video! I’m going to watch this a couple of times over :) you could do something with the acoustics, it sounds to me like you’re standing in a small room. for such a grand message, maybe a larger space would be more fitting :) – Keep it rockin’ like this

For languages I can vouch for Duolingo.com and add: memrise.com two great looking websites. Free and very powerful. Although, nothing beats the face to face communication and interaction if you’re going for fluency.
Isn’t self-education the only education ;) ?

Putting Gary Vaynerchuck on my iPod now :) I also listen to audiobooks in different languages, to easily absorb good use of the language. (Le comte de Monte Christo, in French)

Why don’t they make prisons in Meditation Centers, so that Criminals will enter a criminal, and leave a good human. All thanks to neuroplasticity!
Nowadays people who go to prison only end up even more criminal.
I think people will want to meditate for their freedom, and on top of that, it’s measurable if you really have been meditating since it changes your brain structure!
I’m going to make this into a discussion.
Thank you for the article Martijn, I was just looking for this!
