@spaceghost, Try it, what is the worst that can happen? yourbrainonporn has a lot of useful articles and testimonials that can possibly convince you to really do it, and to explain the negative effects.

Good luck!

Ive been reading this thread and site.

Sounds cool… I just do not see how sex is any different.

Keep updating. I am interested in the physiological side of things.

@dafunks, It is regarding the connection between porn and masturbation the brain makes. It creates unrealistic images of how sexual intercourse should be, and many problems start from that. I did not realise this until I started this challenge myself and saw the benefits of it.

@filipek, That is interesting. I can see why. I guess I do this…

I think I am at that age where I was one of the last people not to grow up in my teens in this internet age… but, my adult life has been in it fully. I do feel sorry for teens and children now. I do not think I can even relate to how they see sex today. All the Mystery has gone. I remember when my friend had the first pornographic mag I had ever seen. I also remember searching the library for anything that had a naked women in. Today… 2 clicks away and you have unrealistic hardcore porn for free.

But, I am more interested in the effects it can have on my body. I read that I can save many things that the body uses… And it can even help me look younger. Is this true? And would sex count in this?

@dafunks, Are your last questions regarding masturbation/sex/orgasms etc.?

To be honest I am not an expert in this field, so I am not sure. I read stories wherein they say that ejaculation is causing you to lose valuable energy and minerals and vitamins etc., but then I always remind myself of Hugh Heffner, his age, and his vitality. I mean, I think he is a person who is in the top 10 of having the most sex in your life, so yeah what to say.

I also read that ejaculation apparently stimulates the prostate and can prevent prostate cancer, but I do not know if this is research based or just some stories made up.

I think moderation is the key here. I do not know how ‘bad’ it is to ejaculate every day or whether it is bad at all.

Furthermore, also bear in mind all the other factors playing a role. Maybe ejaculating has negative effects on your body or physical and mental health, but then on the other hand, maybe the advantages of having sexual intercourse with another person are far bigger than the disadvantages of ejaculating (advantages like: loving each other, compassion, physical exercise and all the hormones it creates, plus all the indirect side effects).

Therefore maybe there are disadvantages in ejaculating, but maybe the advantages that indirectly come along with it are bigger.

I think it is hard to draw a causal conclusion here.

Just wanna share some thoughts I’ve had lately…
I haven’t really commited to the no porn thing lately (I had in the past), but the past couple of times I started up some porn I wasn’t really stimulated by it. I just thought, fuck this shit, it’s so fake, those feelings weren’t because of overuse, I’ve always used it relatively sporadically. However my libido is pretty high now but porn doesn’t do it for me, at least the past week and a half. I’d much rather find a girlfriend to have sex with then watch porn, still a virgin so that probably has a lot to do with it ;) peace !!

Man I’m so glad this thread is still going after over a year long. I’ve been clean from masturbating to porn ever since the thread first started. I don’t even think about masturbation anymore. There were too many negatives in my life with porn in the picture, without, everything changed, everything got better and more beautiful. Women are even more beautiful and when you are with them you get aroused by the littlest things. Porn desensitizes you to these things.
Keep going if you don’t believe it.

@jreynolds789, @beyond, I think that meant reacting appropriately to your real partner’s advances and not something like pants brushing your manhood or the principle’s bra strap showing.
Maybe I’m just bitter about an ex that needed me to do backflips covered in oil, lipgloss, and come while I developed extra sets of tits and vaginas that also made moaning sounds all while my twin pole-danced in the background and shiva did the jerking for him while I gave head for six hours while a tape recording of me sensually talking about giving head played over the speakers while whatever else he saw in porn to have half-erection to actually happen and start the ball rolling meanwhile I’ve already lost my hopes. I was so happy to find someone who responds to me without making me doubt that they’re not into me or I’m not fat/ thin/ brunette/ thongs/ foreign-looking enough.

@paintedbeings, …

Wait.

Tha whaa…

That was all for reference sake, right? Er… God damn.

I mean you really made a good point at the end that I didn’t see… but getting there was like watching porn in my face and I thought that was not allowed in this thread…

@jreynolds789, haa I considered deleting it… but I wanted to illustrate how some people can end up looking and acting bored during real sex because they’re used to expecting the semi-narcissistic approach common in porn (because porn is mostly made for guys, catering to male pleasure or ego-stroking) can impact the female partner’s self-esteem (resulting in being unable to establish a real connection with said male). I’m not saying this happens to everybody, but my experience has been that imagination and reciprocity can get clouded over years of splurting into fog crafted by the porns. Especially if it goes on during the man’s developmental years, when he’s making those brain connections that have to do with sex for the first time. I’ve had pretty different experiences with partners coming from some foreign places and poor families (no internet connection in both teenage situations).

@paintedbeings, Geez.. quite insightful. Most important is the extreme level of understanding, makes total sense. I don’t wanna affect my female partners self-esteem!!

@paintedbeings, I’ve always wondered why people blame porn for their misery and it always comes down to one thing – a person’s mind. It’s a fact that people need to stimulate their minds first in order to enjoy something physically too. Insecurities kill imagination. As for getting aroused easily, my dog doesn’t seem to mind being a dog.

But I don’t understand people’s urge to watch fake things. I believe if a person lacks taste to begin with he’ll probably watch tasteless and poor quality porn with no signs of real emotional pleasure in it, but with two or more people with awkward motor skills.

I also think that if people are inspired by natural beauty, femininity, high-grade sense of easiness and naturalness, they’d be frightened mostly by the abundance of the opposite.

Some people would want to fuck whatever they come in contact with, others would try to recreate their fantasies with whoever they come in contact with. Not that it’s a bad thing, people are just predictably selfish that way so it’s no wonder why this thread got so many responses – everyone wants to look like an innocent pervert.

For the record, I never needed this thread or think of that as a “challenge” for the mere reason that it seems ridiculous. I don’t mean ridiculous in an embarrassing way, I mean that counting excitements, erections, ejaculations or days without them is as banal as the cheapest pornography.

In my opinion those that don’t have a serious addiction to porn shouldn’t be frightened, because being afraid leads to more insecurities and that on its own than porn itself could worsen overall moods, self-confidence and to a variable level mental health.

I’m making the same point again. It’s not porn that fucks you up. You fuck yourself up.

@beyond, I think it is hard to draw the line when something is an unhealthy addiction or not. I started watching porn when I was 12 or 13 and ever since most of the time I masturbated while watching porn. I hardly used my own fantasy because it was so easy and accessible to download porn. You know, the time after Napster where p2p programs like KazAa started rising.

I may have mentioned it at some point in this topic already, but it definitely affected my sexual development and how I started looking at girls. Not only my perspective on how sexual intercourse should be, but also the fact that I started to become so critical regarding girls. If she did not have the perfect ratio’s, round ass and solid beautiful boobs, I would cross her off without even giving a chance. Obviously many of these processes happened on an unconscious level where I simply was not aware of the fact that it was like that.

Not until I started reading yourbrainonporn more than a year ago. This took me more than 10 years, almost half my life, to realise the negative effects porn had on me. It became so wired in my brain that I had unrealistic and faulty images of how sexual relationships between one another should look like. My own sexual experiences did never resemble those of the porn movies, hence: I was disappointed most of the time.

I get your point and I agree with you, but not everyone is able to connect the dots so easily. Sometimes it is handy to have some helpful and useful information regarding certain subjects one is not aware of.

Just saying, it helped me greatly and I wish to share my experience so others can help themselves too.

@beyond, Why wouldn’t it be a good thing? Better than needing extreme themed porn to get aroused.

But this isn’t something I wanna get into with you, whatever works for you, go ahead and do it. I can care less. I’m just sharing my experience, Enjoy.

@filipek, Said it best.

@luigiblue, I don’t know what @filipek said best. Being critical of people’s appearance isn’t even related to porn but it is with the influence of sexual commercialization. And as I said I don’t understand how psychologically a person would want to watch fake things, freakier things or more extreme things if he knows what he wants or just has a better taste, realistic one.

Some people do get inspired by nudity even though nudity is not the only theme of beauty. I’d understand an artist that wants to express his fascination in intimate detail, because I get inspired by this too. But if a person is unconsciously looking for sensations even if he stops watching porn, his sexuality and preferences are going to be the same.

If we’re talking about helping others maybe people should pay attention on a more deeper level to better understand their own inclinations so they could benefit from something instead of building up fear for it.

@beyond, “And as I said I don’t understand how psychologically a person would want to watch fake things, ”

I also do not understand everything in life and I believe nature works in mysterious ways. Does not mean that it cannot be different from what I understand.

@filipek, A lot of people share their real concerns regarding their own guilty pleasures just because it seems so mysterious. I don’t believe mysteries exist though, I believe people just need them. :)

I’ve recently started a blog on this to track my progress. I’m so glad I came across this topic, it really has opened my eyes to a lot of things that I perhaps already knew but took little interest in before.

If your interested, its http://www.aboldawakening.blogspot.ro

My main aim is to help as many people as possible with this also, by providing an insight into breaking the addiction.

I know some people probably won’t even see it as an addiction, but it really is, and its not until you you actively stop and assess what it is you’re doing that you realise what effect it is having on your life.

Anyway, I’ll stop sounding so dramatic now, and good luck to anyone who is taking on this challenge!
