One of the most beautiful songs I have heard lately is a remix of the theme song from Inception. Here’s a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se5NBKNcsy4

“Somebody that I used to know”

hey, i know this has probably been out for awhile but i just discovered this song,

i found it to be a good reflection of how a lot of people feel during break-ups,

i enjoyed the duality of the song, the male and female parts

and i enjoyed the powerful and unique vocal style,

…. what do you think?

Lyrics:

Now and then I think of when we were together
Like when you said you felt so happy you could die
Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company
But that was love and it’s an ache I still remember

You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadness
Like resignation to the end
Always the end
So when we found that we could not make sense
Well you said that we would still be friends
But I’ll admit that I was glad that it was over

But you didn’t have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened
And that we were nothing
And I don’t even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger
And that feels so rough
You didn’t have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records
And then change your number
I guess that I don’t need that though
Now you’re just somebody that I used to know

Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me over
But had me believing it was always something that I’d done
And I don’t wanna live that way
Reading into every word you say
You said that you could let it go
And I wouldn’t catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know…

But you didn’t have to cut me off
Make out like it never happened
And that we were nothing
And I don’t even need your love
But you treat me like a stranger
And that feels so rough
You didn’t have to stoop so low
Have your friends collect your records
And then change your number
I guess that I don’t need that though
Now you’re just somebody that I used to know

I used to know
That I used to know

Somebody…

It is the perfect song for relaxing your mind.

I’m going to suggest the entire ‘Fragrant World’ album by Yeasayer which is a recent drop and current personal favorite. Also, check out DiRTY RADiO if you’re into the weird hip-hop/indie/electronic hybrid scene – ‘Forever Alone’, ‘Ground Shake’ and ‘Head Go Wild’ are all solid tunes. x

@captainxmorgan, Well, I really love heavy but trippy-semi-meaningful alt-metal, I generally do not like Country or Gangsta-rap. I do like Old EMINEM though, he cracks me up. So, for some examples, I like KORN, System of a Down, Prodigy, Donovan, Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Joe Satriani, All local Orchestras, David Bowie, The Clash, Blondie, Thomas Dolby, The Cranberries, LIVE, MUSE, Dick Dale, The Beetles, The Beegees, I could go on and on. I love real music man, good thread. :)

@captainxmorgan, Personally, I’m a big fan of hip-hop. Not the shit that gets played on the radio 24/7, but the new underground scene of basically spoken word poetry, that gets overlooked by most. I loved the 90’s era for rap because some of the most well known artists from that time are also some of the best word-smiths of all time.

But to bring it back to the here and now, I’ve added a link to a few modern rap songs, as well as a throwback or two, that many of you may not have heard (although I’m sure there must be some people like me out there ;) ). So I hope somebody gives a couple of these a listen, and any comments on them are more than welcome!

@captainxmorgan, Whole albums,

Odgen’s Nutgone Flake – The Small Faces (psychedelic)

Odyssey and Oracle – The Zombies (” “)

The Band – The Last Waltz (Folk/Rock n Roll)

Neil Young – After the Gold Rush (folk)

The La’s* – *self titled (90s Brit pop/ rock n roll)

Start with Coheed & Cambria’s album Second Stage Turbine Blade:

They’re unique in that they take the idea that a song can be about something and extend it to not just an album, but an entire series. Yes, it’s 4 albums of sci-fi story turned into music :)
