I’d love to hear what all you hethens are putting your brainpower into!
I’m learning how to bake pastries, trying to improve my business skills, and learning Linux. I’m also brushing up on my French when I can.
So, what are you guys trying to master?
I’m trying to master self-awareness and the inner self aka my true nature. But at the same time, I have a great passion and appreciation for knowledge of all kinds. To be honest, I just truly love to learn.
Unfortunately I’m stuck in gen eds for my third year. So biology, algebra, philosophy, and social work. I quite enjoy learning though, if i respect the teacher and feel i’m getting important information I eat it up. I will be studying Social Work as a major, which sucks because I don’t really like it, but I have to do it to get a Master’s in Occupational Therapy. I’m going to learn all about the human mind and body [:
Poetry, Rhetoric x2, Biology of Psychology.
I almost miss those pre-doctorate courses.
@birdflyinghigh, i like your question. whats linux? I’m taking chemistry and i don’t like it too much. Something interesting though, the other day our professor was talking about atoms. Say you took an atom and you blew it up to the size of a NFL stadium. The nucleus of the atom would be the size of a golf ball in the middle of the stadium. (this includes stands as well). The electrons would be in the space but are even tinier than that. Electrons themselves can’t even be pinpointed to one location, it’s all probabilities of where they might be. So what I started thinking is what are we really made of then? Pretty much just space and probabilities of things combining in that space. So why does it seem like everything in our world is so “physical”?
@birdflyinghigh, Intro to Political Theory, Intro to International Relations, and International Political Economy. Just switched to Gov and Law major.
@stealf, Psychology is interesting. The study of the brain and consciousness is the last frontier of the human body, and good professors make classes infinitely better.
@vernalsoul, Learning is great. If you enjoy learning, there isn’t shit you will not be capable of accomplishing. Every action is an acquired skill. Just recently realized that.
@flightfacilities, Can’t you drop PE? Jesus.
Nice topic. I’ve been drawing a LOT lately, but what I’m mostly devoting my brain power to is playing instruments. I took about 5 years of piano lessons from ages 10-15 and recently got a keyboard again for the first time in a few years. I also got an acoustic guitar and picked up the harmonica the other day and fell in love. My best friends are brilliant musicians and I jam with them sometimes which is new since I previously only read sheet music or transposed existing songs into piano tunes. I feel like I was built for this. The only problem now is choosing between instruments; I just jump between them for the time being. :)
@kyle27, I was wondering if a nucleus is so tiny where the electrons can be so far away (if I’m correct, base on what they taught me in high school chemistry, there can only be a maximum of 8?), what lies in between the electrons and nucleus? Is it matter or is it some sort of empty space? That has always boggled my mind.
Right now I’m taking 4 classes, 1 of which I don’t go to because I can care less about that subject (mostly because my professor has the worst and thickest accent that makes it impossible to understand). The classes I’m are Business applications, Database management and Integrated Marketing Communications.
@tangledupinplaid21, Cool to hear that music/creativity is being touched on.
I am doing a film and television course. The classes are screen studies (which is fascinating because we have an awesome teacher), editing, screenwriting (which is cool cause that’s what I want to do) and prac, which is alright.
What is PE that everyone keeps mentioning?
I’m taking sustainable development, environmental ethics, japanese philosophy, english, and math. Though i have been really interested in quantum mechanics, learning about “consipiracy theories” that have some truth to them, and some other stuff. i spend a lot of time working out, playing basketball, boxing, raquetball, running more now, meditating. i’ve been practicing/learning lucid dreaming for a few weeks now. I also make some raps every once in a while. i try to stay busy doing things, and if im not doing things, i might as well meditate!
People & the Environment- how we interact with the world and its resources and how we are going to be screwed if we don’t stop our mass consumption.
Film Studies- How to analysis every little detail in any film I watch.
Algebra- How much I hate math
Interpersonal Communication- How people communicate with others, factors that effect how, when, why we talk. Different kinds of communication and the difference between cultures when it comes to interacting with each other.
Digital Photography— LOVE! Tuning up my skills with my camera.
I was doing my masters in business which i finished recently. Now most of my time is spent in music. we have this great band and we’re jamming and trying to write some songs which is pretty hard by d way. I’ve always thought writing songs was easy but when the real time comes you get to know how hard it is. And hard to make catchy music. Anyways we’re tryin’ our best. Though it’s time for me to work, i am just taking it slow :)) And i forgot to mention HE ^_^
Management, focused on the musicbusiness. Its funny, im so interested in all the psychological stuff, there are so many subjects that I love to learn about. But for me there Interests I want to go after in my free time, I couldnt imagine doing em as my major.
Just about to write my final exams for high school in History, Drama, Art, English, Afrikaans and Maths. Going on to varsity next year to study History, Drama, English Language and Linguistics and French. Super excited :D
