We have land – but we dont have the means to put the structures on the land. We also are very young in the process of such.

As for the live in – we are moving away from talking about that as our goal to make sure the city allows us to put up our community centre as a “farm building” – the goal is to create housing and have a community still – the idea however is to only promote it one step at a time.

The Valknut has deeper meaning then what you may think – it is the least bit agressive if you understand its origins.

We aren’t concerned about image – but we need the help of the crowds to make this a reality and we have a background in computers and videos not in building – something we are bridging by bringing in the experts and attracting the people we need in this project.

There will definitely be ways for visitors and non members to take part – there will also be members who actually live on the land while others would be online and offline members that enjoy some benefits without actually living with the group!

    Hey Martin and Liam!

I wish I could sit here ans address you every concern and reality is I have answers to much of what you ask but at this point I will have to differ to the videos and full length document that will explain this all in incredible detail!

I agree there are many challenges ahead in terms of personal property / what constitutes someone putting in their fair share / and there are concerns about dictatorship as well but all I can say is there is a very intelligent system I have come up with but I can only prove by putting it into practice – this being said I think we need to grow in small but consistent steps we cant just accept 100 applicants all at once but actually have to have a very rigorous process and create a real family by accepting new members on a case by case – one at a time in a sense basis! We will eventually be able to grow bigger but when we would arrive at a “too big point” then the goal of the community will be to spread through this university of knowledge how each and every member can actually start one of these for their own future families as well! We must use this base as a platform to launch a new way of life more so then have it be the be all and end all of peoples existence! I see this more as a step for change more so then the a persons final destination!

The videos and documents will be out soon – I promise!!

Hey buddy – where to begin!

First let me start by saying I own the land – by law and operating in a world of capitalism someone has to legally or else we would get shut down!

I said it isn’t communism for 2 reasons – first is the negative stigma behind such – second is communism as you mentioned means people dont have personal property – this is untrue! You can live in this community bring in your own bed sheets laptop and whatever and such is yours – the community isn’t here to provide you with every single thing you will use – it will strive to but hey I dont think we will be competing with apple or HP anytime soon – reality is any community will operate within the larger body it lives within and living in a world of money, capitalism and well having to deal with the “outside” is a very impossible to ignore reality!

That being said – the way I think this will spread most is because what we will show is an alternative – you can go out and get a loan and buy a regular house or condo – or you can invest the same time energy and knowledge or even money if you choose to buy / build something self sustainable and really reduce your negative impact on the world! If we can show just how doable this is then yes I do believe it can spread – and to be honest there are millions of people who would love to snap their fingers and have this be reality tmr! I mean who doesnt wish they didnt have to pump their car with gas or pay their electricity bill and well reality is the technology and yes even products exist today to make such a reality! So when we build this fully sustainable community – yes we will have acquired wood, metals and all kinds of material from the outside world – we would be fools not to – the question really is are we doing so with mortgages or are we doing so through cooperation and connections!

We must overcome the “tragedy of the commons” for this to work and this is something our videos / doctrine will address in more detail! If people begin to support the more conscious companies and realize how easy it can be to be self sufficient the big boys will have to change their ways and game to adapt and that is the point in the end! The people hold the power – just many of them lack the direction and knowledge and don’t know where to start!

I think the revolution has already begun – we have tons of people who want change but so far they are only manifesting it in the form of protests like occupy wall street as oppose to actionable change – something we will act upon and teach both off and online an invaluable way of doing such! If we get the documentary going – show all the steps and have how to videos on everything from building a solar panel to growing a tomato plant I do believe we can better society in a big way! Will we fix all the problems and achieve absolute utopia – of course not – life is lived in a balanced state – there will always be issues and problems even in paradise…

Age restriction is something up in the air right now – I wont answer yes or no but its to be discussed!

pretty much everything we do will be open source – atleast to the members – and this whole building process is already put on this site and will be on mine to accept the public opinion before adopting it as final guidelines for the community – in short the answer is yes!

How many will live in the barn / community will need to be determined by many factors including – financial / ressource viability – ability to feed and provide for all and well just ability to live comfortably – long run – hundreds – short run handful!

The entire land is like a giant sanctuary – pick your meditation spot…

Can you eat with your hands at home? then the same will apply here – your free to do as you want – I mean out of respect this might not be a nudist colony – not that we wont have our experiments but I think clothing is most likely going to be a common standard – that isnt to say someone wont prance around naked or go skinny dipping in the huge pond we dug!

Free wifi – definitely – nothing more to say!

15 20 minutes from downtown montreal max!

there will be animals there – will we allow your outside cats and dogs to come with you – umm likely not – but up for debate i guess!

There will be tons of meat – we will have livestock / be able to trade for it with local farmers some of which already offered it to us so far!

Definitely we will definitely have a guest house / hostel kind of section so we can make sure to accept enthusiasts and allow people to return home and spread the word about our awesome place!

    Videos to come soon!!

There will be education on more then the basics – as for meat – we will raise chickens, goats and pigs most likely on the land but there will also be abundance of other products from lavender to fruits that we can trade with other local farmers for livestock – combine that with hunting and we can meet our needs!

As for raising a child – dont really have an answer to that – to be honest i dont even know if we will be child friendly – every person living there will have to be a contributor as a mature adult in a sense and thus we might limit the beginning stages to not have children but again this is something I haven’t given to much thought to yet – I will address it all shortly though!

We will attract both the wrong and right types of people – but our system will weed out the truly devoted members between the talkers, dreamers and free loaders – as for funding – it will all be done through sponsorship and crowd funding – aka no debt and no liability to anyone outside the community!

How We Can (Actually) Change The World – Pt. 3/3

  • 2012-06-14 @ 23:15:03

Hey Liam to answer some of your questions – I own the land solely!

As for building regulations we are building on agricultural land and as long as your an agricultural producer – something I am becoming this season you can build both a barn (aka the community center) and a house – there isnt much more regulations then that other then like being certain distances from property lines and so on but thats standard stuff!

The land is already paid for in full by me – and thus if we make our own energy to power our computers, lights and even cars – and grow / trade for our own food what else do we need really – we will still be making money as a community but it will cover things like taxes and stuff and go toward community improvements and expansion – all to be determined by the members really!

As for monetary requirement – no it will all be based on putting in effort in time in some way to benefit all the other members and community in some way – whether that means you are a webmaster – videographer – farmer – or bird house maker it means you are contributing something to the project!

Canadian universal health care will cover anyone with any life threatening problems without question – they might charge something if you are from out of town but its like 1/50th the price they would in the states for example plus you can buy insurance for yourself worst case!

Non canadians can apply for work visa’s as well as stay in canada for 6 months without any visa assuming they are coming from a western nation before they have to return to their country for 24 hours and then can come back… pretty simple! People can always apply for citizenship if they want!

Who is on the land is not to be disclosed right now – but put it this way – I am on the land – planting – building and growing and I am far from alone – I have filmed most of what we have done so far – and have lots of people on board including two major sponsors!

Access to google docs? – of course – you will have access to everything the internet has to offer – this is going to a be a technologically advanced company and I run a marketing / videography / web design company – so aint no way we wont be all over the net for this project and to help spring up others like it!

Hope that helps clear things up!

  • 2012-06-14 @ 23:06:50

As he said no need for a visa you just need to “Return to the states” once every 6 months for 24 hours to be able to come back but if you wanted to set up permanent residence its actually quite easy – we pretty much accept all applications up here – we are only like 36 million for such a big land!

The best protection in my opinion for a community like this is its voice. Like with a political activist – if the person is loud enough that when the gov’t or others come lurking they can sound the alarms they will have quite the defense mechanism – if you get the people on your side and supporting the initiative (i mean how many people dont support being sustainable really? – they may not do it but they aren’t against it) the community itself will protect the project!

I mean what protects your home regardless of where you live? This community is also 15 to 20 minutes away max from Montreal and there are homes / police / tons of life right near by – it wont be in the middle of the forest – more so in plain site for all to see and marvel!

  • 2012-06-13 @ 16:48:03

Canadian winter isn’t as cold as you think – and even for those with warmer blood reality is – there are many ways of heating a house both through solar energy – proper insulation – wood burning ovens – and proper placement of windows and earth to make it very comfortable!

There will be a heating system that keeps the entire place warm/cool enough to walk around in a tshirt in at all times!!

  • 2012-06-13 @ 16:46:23

As Jordan stated this is to be an extremely modern place – it will have all the luxuries any home has today – except as oppose to being built with monetarily efficient and convenient materials and methods we will use nothing but purely sustainable methods and use our knowledge of todays capabilities (solar, geothermal, wind, etc.) and planning to our advantage!

I don’t plan on living in a cave!

This project will work if people like you and everyone have the hope and will to help see it through to the point that it will work!

Reality is just as simple as reading about the community and spreading the message or providing insights, tips, ideas and fresh faces to the project can help!

As much as I am one who does spread the message that money is made unsustainably – I think the best thing we can now focus on as a community and as a populous of the world is not the protest of what is wrong with it already but in actively creating a better alternative. Unless you create a better medium of exchange that is working and people will begin switching too – our current money system will just reign supreme!

As for ways to spark the potential flame on letting people know why they should give a second look to the community we are building the answer is through showing them how and allowing them to learn better options – once they have learned they will join the movement of really fun and wacky ideas of getting peoples attention be it – flash mobs or online blasts of info! We must have our “marketing” of these issues and solutions spread both online and offline like the plague and then we will be really successful!

  • 2012-04-16 @ 07:16:38

By starting – its so easy to just spring into action – what do you want to see changed?

Does it deal with the environment – school system – medical care – you name it just be it! Don’t think we should be wasting materials like plastic water bottles or excessive packaging – dont drink bottled water and buy things with excessive packaging!

Dont support Monsanto and GMO foods? STOP EATING THEM! – There is only one solution to change and that is we all begin to be the change we want to see and inspire others to do the same…!

To You, The Bringers of Light
