    || To do this, the camel must destroy the largest barrier to true freedom: the duty and virtue imposed by tradition and society. This is what Nietzsche’s great dragon represents. The camel had been a slave to the dragon, inviting life’s challenges but always living in accordance with the values imposed upon it from without. The dragon of “Thou Shalt” can also be seen as simply representing everyone who would try to tell one how to live one’s life. ||

i do not know if i agree with the external factor definition of this, everything up until this point as been related to internal struggles, it does not seem to fit that the dragon is something external, the dragon seemed a metaphor for the allure of self destruction, “…lies in his way, sparkling like gold, an animal covered with scaled” i dunno, i dont think he meant society, he meant of the part of you that seems so appealing but really leads to destruction

TEDs Controversy – 3 Threatening Talks They Tried to Censor

  • 2013-05-21 @ 11:14:37

i think it’s interesting that no matter the context, if someone decides not to play, present, etc something we immediately move to the extreme, ‘censorship’. now, i’m not arguing that the word is not appropriate by definition, what i am arguing is the extreme the word censorship usually suggests, as if TED was doing something insidious, trying to bury the truth, etc.

i would question whether anyone outside of those who make TED happen have any right to say anything about what they present? are those that are complaining setting up the events, putting the money out there to make it happen, or even understand the decision making process TED goes through when they decide what to air and what not to?

    ^this aside, the following comment,

” … it seems it has shifted its focus from controversial ideas to the goal of preserving its own brand. Is it trying to defend science or is it trying to defend the ones who use science as a political tool?”

blows my mind. the suggestive conclusion you have drawn and so nonchalantly dropped in there, with all the good and all the spreading of knowledge that TED does, chills me. how can you draw or even allude to your conclusion from 3 examples when there are literally thousands upon upon thousands of examples that they allow, many controversial as well? I watch 3-4 TED talks a week, your assessment,

-when you have so many people following what you say-

is shaky and meant to create a reaction, one that is not warranted at the level your title suggests, very disappointed.
