I would suggest not getting up and doing anything for the first 10 minutes. Lie back down, keep your eyes closed and don’t try to hard to remember, your mind should take you right back where it was before waking and if you are awake but still in that half asleep phase you should be able to remember what you were dreaming about better. I do THE OPPOSITE when I have nightmares. If I keep my eyes closed and stay lying in bed I am still in that “place” I was in the dream. It works for me and worth a try! Good Luck! : )
