First impressions are an essential tool to the survival of humans. Even in our society, where we focus less on the primal instincts and instead try to forge our advancedness, first impressions carry a legitimate amount of preliminary information.
I suppose one could argue that the one forming these thoughts will likely continue to see their truth, even if the person changes over time, but if we are willing to grant ourselves the ability to triumph first impressions by completely overlooking them, as some would have it, then I think we could also afford to have them anyway and use them as is appropriate.
Given the nature of our sub-conscious (what little we know of it, at least) it would seem wise to allow it to have its say.
