@eman, It’s kind of a paradox, isn’t it? People get their defense mechanisms in order to protect themselves rather than help, but what are they defending really? Their humanity? Or not everyone works the same way and there are a few that aren’t as primitive, because their animal instincts aren’t law. I’ve thought about that since I was 5, I think. And I think there’s a shocking difference between people. I’ve had arguments with psychologists about it which stated that altruism is nonexistent if it makes you feel good, you do nice things so you feel better, ergo you are not altruistic, but egoistic. To me though, it was always obvious that arguing about it is egoistic and a defense mechanism, because being “good” for them is a competition. And I think that’s the definition of an idiot.
