I would say that both are connected somehow. Physical pain is said to be partially mental, like when you are working out and you feel so much pain, if you manage to control your thoughts you will be able to push through. If you mean by mental pain, the kind of pain that our emotions and feelings inflict upon us, then I think that that too can be controlled, but it will be a bit more challenging, because you can’t locate the pain, and you are never sure where it comes from, or what it really means and what it tries to tell you. It will be hard to “reason” when you are under emotional pain, so I would say that it is more intense. But when it comes to physical pain, you usually can locate it and know why you are feeling it. If you have a knee injury you would know that the pain comes from your knee, but if you have a heart ache, you wouldn’t really know where that comes from and wouldn’t be able to heal it as easier.
