@ddub21, Entropy is the state of perpetual chaos from order. The universe is in a constant state of entropy.

To put entropy in simple terms, it basically talks about the order of a system. Here is a common example:

Take a bunch of skittles or M&Ms and separate them by color. Now carefully place the candy in a jar, making sure that each color has its own layer. This system of candy in the jar is very ordered.

Now lets say you shook this jar. Now all the colors are intermixed and the distinct layers disappear. Now no matter how much you shake the jar, the colors will not separate back into their ordered layers. This is the nature of an increasingly entropic system.

Lets push it even further: Drop the jar on the floor. It cracks and all the candy spills all over the place. This is an even higher state of entropy, since there is more disorder than the previous messed up system.

The universe is in a perpetual state of entropy.

If you would like a simple definition of the laws of Thermodynamics, i will try to provide. But bear in mind that if you seek a simple definition of an otherwise complex law, then you will inevitably miss out on a lot of important details.

0th (zero) Law of Thermodynamics: basically describes Temperature

1st law: heat cannot be created or destroyed (similar to the law of the conservation of energy). It merely “travels” outside its concentrated area or stays in its area.

2nd law (in terms of entropy): the entropy of a closed system will only increase of remain constant. Entropy cannot decrease

3rd law: If an object reaches absolute zero in Temperature, it’s atoms will cease to be animated. But this is experimentally impossible

hope this helps
