Fun mainly comes from new experiences, so it’s as simple as maintaining the flow of new experiences. Although best if it is a pleasant experience, it doesn’t necessarily have to be, you can enjoy how you handled it or what it taught you.
As a child everything is a new experience, so it is a joyful part of your life, exploring your mind as well as the neighborhood. As we get older and our bank of experience fills we find it difficult to experience the joy we used to derive from from the same stimulus. Almost everything loses it’s shine.
I remember the first time I saw the mountains…WOW, but after living there for 15 years, not so wow. My first whitewater rafting trip, first whitewater kayak trip, first car, first trip to a city, first _______…all exciting and fun.
You can extract fun from the seemingly mundane too though. The mountains provided many firsts unto themselves. First summit, first snowmobile climb, first snow cave, first mother lode of blueberries, first discovery of the geology, wildlife, and plant communities, etc.
So just keep stimulating the brain, it’s fun!
