a little meditation experience

I just wanted to hear about how meditation feels. Have to start with the fact that I am new to it, but have been trying to kinda relax when going to sleep for a while now, meaning – I put on some relaxing, calming music, crawl into bed and try to focus on my breathing. So far it’s been just…. calming…. but tonight it felt very weird. I again put on some relaxing nature sound music, crawled in my bed, took a comfortable pose and started focusing on my breath. I even put my hands on my chest too hind of feel the breath more. Then my mind started imagining of having a ball light in my chest and together with air breathing in good vibes, that I imagined to look like snowflakes shining in the sun. I also kept a smile on my face the whole time…. and then I sank into it…. I dot remember some moments of it, but I remember at one point feeling my body pulsing, tickling and being warm…. I could feel the energy within me. I also felt the mattery that’s beyond our vision around me, I actually kind of saw it, it looked similar to what I had imagined the good vibes in the air would look like, and I was actually flying or swimming in it …. Then I sank into it again and don’t remember anything after that but I came out of this state in a loud click, shocked a little bit. After that I needed to stand up and get back to reality, but for few minutes I still felt dizzy and deattached of what’s around me. Now I am back and don’t know what to think, cuz it’s the first time I actually have some kind of effect. I don’t even know if I like it.

And I just have the question – is this similar to what meditating feels like? Or is it just me that perceives it this way?

Going to bed again this time really trying to sleep. Hope I’m successful, don’t think I can take any more new experiences today.

What you experienced was not meditation, but the beginning of an Out-of-body experience. Most likely you began to lucid dream, with your mind creating identical circumstances to your reality of lying in bed. However, a true OBE is when your consciousness leaves the body. It is hard to tell the difference and can be frightening if you’ve never had this experience. My advice is try meditating sitting up. Lying down always runs the risk of lulling you into sleep.
