A video blog from a patient in a psychiatric unit

Spax (@spax) 9 years ago

This is my very dear friend Pete who I consider family. He has battled with bipolar disorder and drug addiction for his entire adult life and has recently voluntarily admitted himself to s psychiatric unit as he considered himself a threat to his own safety. He has decided to attempt to make a daily video blog about his world. And it’s super interesting. He hits the nail on the head about mental illness. This is raw and rare.

@spax, Amazing video. When I heard what’s the situation in my country with mental health a lot of things made sense. There’s no funding at all by the government, there is no law for mental health therapists from the government that will allow institutions for therapy and generally people don’t get the attention they deserve. According to the governments, funding for psychotherapy is capricious. The only thing the government has let as a law is the use of medicine for psychiatric clinics. That makes a lot of people angry, but at least people have their pills to soften their anger, if they don’t want to, they have their weed or alcohol. When there’s no funding for mental health and people have no access to therapy and education of the mental processes, the only thing left is to rely on yourself and the people you’re surrounded with. And basically those that deal with their mental issues alone or almost alone can only trust themselves or if they’re lucky enough they’ll meet knowledgeable and experienced GOOD PEOPLE. Thanks for sharing, that at least is an example of how useful youtube can be, although I’m sure a lot of prejudicial types are only going to skip it.

@spax, I like what Pete is trying to do here, you should post a link to his youtube channel so people can subscribe.

edit: scratch that, people can click on the “watch on youtube” button and it links.

This is great! More people need to be informed about the mental health system, and how much it actually needs reworking.

Thanks for posting this! Pete is a very brave person and it is great that he is wanting to spread metal health awareness. He is right, not many people really know what metal health really is and listening to his valuable perspective is nice.
