A week without mobile,laptop,tv,Facebook..

Last Saturday, I was accompanying a few tourist friends who needed my help to drive them around to a place about 4 hours away from where I lived. I had heard about their chosen place of having nice beaches, beautiful sand and a wonderful coastline but had never been there. On reading a bit about the place I had found out that it was quite an isolated area and hardly had any communication sources. Preferable means of communication was post or through landlines: no internet, no mobiles.
I was a bit skeptical about the idea to go there as although I love beaches, sands and such places but sub-consciously I had this constantly flashing thought: no internet, no mobiles. A deep-seated feeling of a likely boredom without mobile, internet for 3 whole days.
I just came back yesterday and I did spend 3 whole days without any mobile conversations, any internet or any other means of connection to people other than the ones I was with. I had taken my camera along with me which I had bought many years ago, and had hardly used it. I made the most use of it on the three day holiday and although I did enjoy photography but did not know to what extent until I went on to this holiday.
On coming back from the trip over a nice glass of wine I realised how addicted we have been to gadgets, internet and stuff that we somehow are depriving ourselves of the real quality of life out there. I dont think having mobiles, laptop, tv or internet stops us from anything but many of us have slowly started revolving our lives around them and it is we who cant see anything beyond it and hamper ourselves from the real bliss of nature and the “organic living” as they say. Although not everybody thinks the same and different people have different priorities;agreed. But treating them as a means to the end and not the end itself could definitely enable one to make the best of both worlds.
My idea is that I want people to join in to a venture where people spent a week without any mobiles, laptops, tv, internet and see whether they can find better means to life.. or discover anything interesting about themselves or others during that week and share their experiences ?
I would appreciate if people can share their views on the activity and if they have been a part of such an activity; share with us the experience :)

@jimmy, I will totally do it. My life revolves around modern technology and I think life could be much more enjoyable without it.

I hate when I glance at the person driving next to me and there face in glued to a smartphone! TV these days is mostly garbage. I still enjoy some situational comedies, and a variety of movies. But news and reality TV is pure propaganda.

This web site is one of the few modern technologies that I will miss when I do give it up.

I consider taking a week or longer off of the smartphone, laptop, and TV as somewhat of a detox for the mind.

Lets do this. I’m in!

Maybe now..

The hardest thing will be putting down this website, no doubt.

@jimmy, Fantastic guys ! Sounds great.. the idea is to see a life beyond gadgets and internet that is already out there for us. And to experience the joy and bliss that we all can get from leading a balanced life.
Has anyone ever had a similar experience where they felt a resistance when they had no access to their gadgets or internet or stuff like that ?

@jimmy, Yes please feedback HeTHens,. I know I need to step away from the gadgets- if only to get started on some good titles gathering dust. Used to enjoy losing myself with a good read.
