Additive to your foods

An experience I had with additives to foods.
So i recently got a job at a diner bussing tables and sometimes they have me cut up french fries. First instructions were to go upstairs and get “potato freshner” with specific detail to not accidentally inhale any. They told me, and also on the label it was stated, that inhalation could cause death. So yeah, for every bag of potatoes that get cut up into the fries they add a scoop of this stuff. Apparently its a preservative but I was just shocked something that could cause that kind of reaction to inhalation would be added to peoples food and they had no idea. Now its added to water and the fries soak in the water, and also Wiki says its oxidized in the liver to harmless substances and excreted. Just makes me wonder what else is being put in food behind the kitchen doors of restaurants. Other uses are for photography and doslving lignin’s for tree removal.
