Also known as “How are you today?” “ahhhhh just another day in paradise!”
I’d like to take the time to address something that has been bothering me. Why do we accept lives that make us unhappy? Why do we, the whole world, wake up everyday and tolerate bullshit? We say good mornings, give an awkward half-tucked bottom lip smile with a tilt of the head, rattle off automated responses like
A: “Hey, how ya doin’ today?”
B: “Ohhhhh you knowwwwwww livin’ the dream what can I say. Same shit different day! hahaha”
A: “Hahaha I hear ya buddy! Well, hey, have a good day!”
B: “Hey, I’ll TRY! You too!”
What kind of bullshit is this? I’m tired of this sarcastic “well lifes shit but shoot I guess that’s that!” sort of mindset. Have we got no passion? No guts? Why do we acknowledge that the circumstances in todays world aren’t what we as a people feel justifiable but we accept them? We live in shitty circumstances that are so prevalent in todays world that we’ve come to the point of laughing about it sarcastically with every waking day just because we’re so damn used to accepting the way ‘things are’.
What will it take for every person who isn’t happy with the way their life is going to wake up one day and say they’re tired of accepting the way ‘things are’. I know that’s what every single person feels. Or atleast I know most people anymore feel that the way things are now isn’t how they are supposed to be. So, I ask again…where’s our passion? Are we tamed?
This age has given us the ability to harness great means of communication. We can contact eachother with so many different means of communication. If we want to, we can make waves. But that’s just it…do we want to or have we just accepted what we were given?
So…
What do I propose? Do I have a suggestion or something? “Well, ojai, you’re talking about it. Plenty of people TALK about it. But what are you going to do about it? You’re doing what you’re saying you don’t like…have you got no ideas what to do?”. Truth be told I don’t know. I do, however, believe we can all make small steps.
The message I would like to get across with this thread is the following — Don’t lose grip on the passions you have and don’t accept the ‘same shit, different day’ lifestyle. This is basically just a reminder, a little inspiration to keep the fire in your heart alive. I’d like finish this post with two lyric exerts.
“Change cannot be subject to conditional falls
‘Cos we’re squatting in a system
That consistently stalls
Don’t be fooled into thinking
That a small group of friends
Cannot change the world
That’s the only thing that ever has
Stand Up
Behind those eyes
We reach through their callous disguise
Into fortresses where they fabricate
Whitewash and lies
We’re all fooled into living
With a small pack of thieves
That distort the world
That’s what this antique structure creates
Stand Up
We are all connected
We are all collected here
Now change the world” – Enter Shikari
“And I don’t know much, but I do know this
With a golden heart, comes a rebel fist
But I can’t help agreeing with those that would not quit.” – Streetlight Manifesto

@ojai, this is beautiful. What do I have to add? Nothing much. Just that I think that we are too complacent, and knowledge like this is a great first step, but there is definitely a step beyond knowing. I like how you say: “…have you got no ideas what to do?”. Truth be told I don’t know. I do, however, believe we can all make small steps.”
I feel this way
@ojai, Yes man, this. You can’t really propose anything I guess, mainly because something like this relies solely on the individual.
This thread makes me a little sad too, the lack of replies in comparison to other threads. No one thinks it could be as easy as just not accepting it anymore.
@siantastic, It relys solely on the individual like you said. I understand the correct words may be hard to find for some people in reply but it does make me sad aswell haha
@ojai, You’ve just made me never want to say or take part in these automated greetings…but then I would be even more socially awkward. :] Maybe I can switch it up so that these small conversations have real meaning and truth.
On the other point, I think fear is the main culprit. Fear of change, of being different, of big brother.
@ojai, I’d say just go “Fight Club” status, go hard against the system…….okay maybe not that hard. It is inspiring nonetheless.
@ojai, Man I fucking love this post! The first time I heard someone say that was a few years back when I started a summer job in a factory. I laughed so hard the first time I heard that grizzly old man with years of conformity utter those words. I heard him say that every day that summer. It began to be not so funny. But was true. There are people in that factory who have parked in the same spot, ate the same lunch, and worked on the same line for 40+ years. I understand that in some cases you do what you gotta do to survive, but wtf kinda life is that?
