Are there any writers on here that want to collaborate?

I am putting together a website/e-magazine in conjunction with my non-profit project (www.1mpp.org).

The website concept is: “Everything is interesting: telling 1,000,000 stories: Inspiring compassion and understanding toward others and their world.”

The idea is everyone has a story to tell. And the more people hear it or read it or see it, the more we can begin to understand why people are the way they are and not necessarily like or love it, but tolerate it – which is all we really need to do for a more peaceful way of living together.

In tying in with the 1MPP concept (which is to raise 1 million dollars from 1 million people) I want to tell 1,000,000 different stories (obviously, a difficult feat, but the idea is to get enough people interested and have them contribute their own stories eventually). The way I see it at the moment… we basically get the ball rolling and we find awesome people, products, projects etc and we translate that awesomeness for other people to digest. We also take up new challenges or try new things and then write about that. Things like the love experiment Jordan posted here a while back. I am going to do a Hip Hop dance class and interview a hip hop dancer and write about that. I think the possibilities for this are endless. Day in the life of a CEO, or a homeless person, or a Social Worker, or a wing-suit base jumper or a Muslim woman, or a gay Christian etc etc.

Is anyone interested in being a part of this? Looking to release the website in March. Contact me yo :)

@heedthem, @alexunknown, @thedudeabides, @mizu

Thank you very much for getting in contact with me! I certainly do need more writers, as the old adage goes – the more, the merrier. Can any of you become Resident Writers? RW’s contribute one post per month and have a feature page with short bio and photograph on the website. Obviously, I understand life happens, so if you can’t post one month, it is not the end of the world – I am just trying to arrange scheduling to make the website as interesting and consistent as possible.

Let me know (via email: [email protected] or private message) if this is something you would be interested in? Or if you would prefer to submit only occasionally. I am hoping to have the website launched March 15th depending on availability of content. Also, if you require further information about specifics, just let me know. To give you a few ideas of what others are going to be writing about here is a snippet below:

– the life & experience of either the owner or worker of a brothel
– story of a gay muslim
– life in a community
– connections: how strangers can later become lovers or friends

Thanks a bunch guys! Talk soon.

@lauraocrapira, A very good idea and ambitious project! I completed a diploma in professional writing & editing and would be more than happy to help in any way I can. :)
If you have vacant positions for resident writers I would also jump on that as I write quite a lot in my spare time, therefore it would be easy for me to commit to the project.

@lachychap, I do have space left! I am hoping to have the site ready for March 15th. Do you think you will be able to have your bio, photo and 1st piece ready by then?

Laura O’Connell Rapira (58) (@lauraocrapira) 8 years, 4 months ago ago

@lastunicorn, Awesome :) Would you be interested in becoming a Resident Writer and submitting a piece once a month or just every now and again?

cHappiness (351) (@lachychap) 8 years, 4 months ago ago

@lauraocrapira, yes I will make sure of it. How and when would you like me to send them to you?

@lachychap, email is probably best! [email protected]

Hey @lauraocrapira ! I would absolutely LOVE to contribute every month! Do you still have a few places left?

[Hidden]
Laura O’Connell Rapira (58) (@lauraocrapira) 8 years, 3 months ago ago

@robinrobison, Certainly do! The more, the merrier :) What would you like to write about? And can you get me a short bio, pic and approximate date of the month you would like to contribute by March 15th? Trying to organise it so I can have a new post up every week.

@lauraocrapira, Your campaign/website is extremely compelling and besides wanting to just flat out thank you for doing this I’m more than interested in volunteering to become an RW. Please message and/or add me. My name is Ronaldo Amador and I am a hispanic-american from Miami, FL

This sounds very nice. I am in – either telling my story or writing about someone else.I will think about it more precisely.

@lauraocrapira, You say you want the website to be launched in March? But how do you expect the website to be at that point? With some start up – example stories and adding more eventually?
Actually, I think you should write down a detailed version of you projects description here, a really detailed. I would love to participate, i possible, but I am a little confused right now.

Hey guys! Thanks so much for the incredible response! I am really excited to work with you all! Here are a few more specifics as I have been getting a lot of the same questions…

OVERVIEW of PROJECT:

The 1 Million People Stories Project: Everything Is Interesting. Everyone has a story to tell.

Our goal is to tell 1,000,000 stories.

Inspiring compassion, understanding and tolerance toward others and their world through the art of story-telling.

We believe everyone has a story to tell. And the more people hear that story, the more we can begin to understand why people are the way they are and not necessarily like or love them for it, but tolerate it- which is all we really need to do for a more peaceful way of living together.

A multi-lingual, multi-cultural and multi-faceted affair.

11 CATEGORIES
• Love & Relationships
• Passion & Pursuits
• Careers & Jobs
• Art & Culture
• Sports & Leisure
• Taboo Topics
• Fiction & Fantasy
• Poetry & Prose
• Struggles & Hardship
• Current Events
• Streams Of Consciousness

GENERAL GUIDELINES:

Resident Writers:
* Spots for 5 Non-English Writers
* Spots for 10 English Speaking Writers
* Contribute one piece a month
* Try to generate traffic to the site by sharing with friends, family and networks
* Have a page with display picture, basic bio or “about me”
* Have the ability to be contacted by readers (if you wish)
* Must email posts/writing to me for posting (we cannot have direct uploads at this stage due to suitable content management and technical setbacks)
* Most recent or popular articles will feature on RW page

Sporadic Contributors:
* Write as and when you can and submit to myself or the project manager
* Will be credited and can be contacted (if you wish)

WRITERS MUST include any specific keywords or optimized search words you wish to have as well as which category the piece should fall under (makes searching for users easier).

SECURITY
* No secure details or information will be given out, if you wish to be anonymous or change names or fictionalise that is OK, no third parties involved etc.

WORD COUNT
I want to give people as much creative autonomy as possible so there are no real restrictions. If your topic befits it, write in-depth 5,000 word articles. If you’re aiming for a more leisurely (and entertaining) read, it may be worthwhile considering that most popular blogs have an average of 100-250 words per article. Stories can also be broken up into parts (this can be exciting for readers!) or include pictures and sub-headings.

THE SITE
Due for release mid-late March. Will feature categorized stories, latest posts, Resident Writer pages, global group experiments (things like “draw what u eat for one week” – drives traffic and generates connection/conversation between readers/users). The website will be updated constantly, and ideally I would like to see at least one new post/story/article go up each week.

THE FUTURE
We shall see.

Any further questions, please get in contact, otherwise get to writing and I look forward to reading your work! Trust me, I have received all of your emails/messages – and I will be answering you personally as well! Just trying to get my own writing, website-making, working done at the same time.

Peace and pop-art!

Laura.

Is anyone still keen for doing this? I have pushed the website release date to March 31st to get some more stories and content together. You can follow project progress on http://www.facebook.com/1mppstories. I just read a piece about a girl in a secret lesbian relationship with a Christian and am writing a piece about someone who works as an Embalmer and what that is like. You can submit your writing to [email protected]. I will also post a link to the website once it’s live for people to submit their writing to.

Thanks for the support guys. I look forward to reading your tales.

@lauraocrapira, Hullo! I am definitely interested in this, but I am curious as to what your organization’s efforts are going towards? From the brief look I took everything seemed kind of vague. What are your intentions with the money? Anyways, it seems like you are on to something pretty cool here and I would like to be a part of it.

Laura O’Connell Rapira (58) (@lauraocrapira) 8 years, 2 months ago ago

@aimlesscreation, The intention is to buy land in NZ and use that land to build and create a sustainable, educational, interactive and educational community site. This page sums it up best: http://www.1mpp.org/#!goals/c1enr

@lauraocrapira, That’s sounds like a fantastic idea! And I’m greatly interested. I’m a Creative Writing Major and plan on going to Grad. School for an MFA program. I have a question about the stories that we would submit, do you have a preference of them being fictional or non-fictional?

[Hidden]
Laura O’Connell Rapira (58) (@lauraocrapira) 8 years, 2 months ago ago

@linda09, Either, or. The categories we have chosen are:

• Love & Relationships
• Passion & Pursuits
• Taboo Topics
• Career & Jobs
• Sports & Leisure
• Arts & Culture
• Fiction & Fantasy
• Struggles & Hardship
• Poetry & Prose
• Nature & History
• News & Politics
• Streams Of Consciousness

So if you can squeeze it into one of them, that would be grand :)

@lauraocrapira, Oh! Okay! That’s awesome! I’m totally in.

[Hidden]
Laura O’Connell Rapira (58) (@lauraocrapira) 8 years, 2 months ago ago

@linda09, They don’t have to be – you can chuck it in the “fiction & fantasy” section? I am wanting to write some fiction myself about the potentials of post-human evolution.
