Atheists, Explain Yourself!

HigherThinking (@hefan14) 8 years, 9 months ago

I don’t usually do this kind of thing, but I want all the atheists (or agnostics) on here to explain exactly why they believe that God doesn’t (or can’t) exist. I’m a Christian, but I will try not to get offended (lol), and I will reply to some, so keep a lookout for my posts. Debates allowed.

This is an easy one, what proof is there that god exist? A book written by men, imperfect unreliable men. I see not a single shred of evidence that he/she exist.

Plus why would i follow a god that allowed its followers to kill millions in his name. How did he create the entire universe? Do you really think he made ALL of it just for us? Come on please just think about how GIGANTIC the universe is and youll realize its all bs

@hefan14, You’re in for a hurting my friend, I hope your faith is strong. I’m agnostic but I’ll start with this; there is zero evidence of the existence of God. Furthermore, if God is so good and so great, then why is there all the horrible things that there is in the world? You may be fine where you are, but the reality is that somewhere in the world a child is about to die because he hasn’t had access to drinkable water his entire life and has diseases because of the dirty water he’s been drinking. Why would God let this happen? Furthermore, why is your God the ”right” one? The Muslims would say their God is the best one so who is right?

Sorry to lay into you like that, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to logical arguments against the existence of God.

First of all, get the fuck out of here if you’re just looking for an argument. “I will try to not get offended…”

Lmao, wow.

I’m not an atheist. Truly I’m not. You can check out my track record on here and see the things I’ve posted. But what the hell does it matter what someone else believes when it comes to god? No one owes you jack shit for an explanation about anything.

See that’s the thing about you Christians – you can’t just shut the fuck up and keep your beliefs to yourself.

Lol, and your name is HigherThinking? Hahaha. Yeah right.

Burden of proof lies on the one making the claim. So let’s start like this. Why do you believe in God?

Then you gotta ask yourself, “if I were born in the middle east would I believe in Allah”?

Then you come to the realization that the only reason your christian is because you were brought up that way and it is soley based on geographical location.

My response to the whole question “Do you believe in God?” is “Shit man, I don’t know. Life’s pretty fucking weird but chances are there is a higher power”.

“If God is so good and so great, then why is there all the horrible things that there is in the world?”

I’m not a believer, but I feel this is a silly question especially when the answer is obvious: we need to grow on our own. We need to make our own mistakes and fix them. I mean, all of our problems can be fixed by a collective effort, without a god. Why should He do our dirty work?

Why does Mom and Dad let you move into shitty apartments with leaky sinks when you could just live with them forever where the fridge is always full? Because there is no other way to learn and grow.

Why expect anything more from God when He has already given us a plentiful Earth, life, and love? He gave us the ingredients to paradise. It’s not our fault we used them to make life hard.

Again, I’m not religious. I don’t believe in God as a single, all powerful being, but c’mon. If God is out there, he’s rooting for us. He wants us to figure it out for ourselves and take responsibility for our actions: that’s true happiness..

Number One, people aren’t THAT infallible. For example: several years ago one an author was teaching a class on the reliability of the Bible. For it, he had typed a one page outline of the course. The finished result was inerrant; it had no typographical errors, no mistakes in copying from the handwritten original. Although the human was prone to make mistakes, he was in fact infallible in this case.

My point is this: yes, man can be VERY infallible at times: I hated math, and was always struggling, and got mostly wrong answers. But the Bible was made infallible so God could show us his glory; by making fallible humans infallible. Sure, writing a whole book may sound hard, but with God it’s not: Jer. 32:27 “Behold, I am the Lord; thy God of flesh; is anything too difficult for me?”

As for the second one: what the HELL?! Holy crap, please don’t get Christians mixed up with freakin’ Muslims! We’re peaceful, and we DON’T “kill millions in our name”!

And thirdly, God is a ALL-POWERFUL God; that means HE CAN DO ANYTHING!! Even create a universe, if he wants.

I was watching a thing about Steven Hawking the other day, and he said that God could exist before the Big Bang because there was no time. Really? God is 1) al powerful and 2) I think he can manage a place without time, don’t you?

@chodebalm, Whoa, dude! Whats your problem? I just want so see why the atheists think the way they do, and maybe I can persuade some of them otherwise…..I think that was a little uncalled for…

@chodebalm, Dude, Chill the fuck out on the guy! TS is trying to learn shit, he’s likely a younger kid. Shouldn’t go off insulting him and shit.

@hefan14, He’s just being a dillhole.

In all seriousness though, I am afraid you’ll find atheists have likely heard every argument you can give them 1000 times.

@hefan14, Because without reading any replies at all, your first post implies you are not going to take anything on board from anybody else here and you are so staunch in your beliefs that refuting any posts here is only serving to boost your potentially fallible
Beliefs without putting forward any credible evidence. Like the good Christian you are.

@shivvy, I guess I’ll just play Devil’s Advocate (I think this is the term in English). The first part (why there is evil, child dying, etc.) isn’t God’s fault. We are all humans, the thing is, some of them are turning Earth resources, that should be everyone’s, in a private thing. If God really interfered in people’s plan, removing their success to turn the world in a more equal place to live, we’d not have any freedom, isn’t it? Just as @kidd said. Also, there’s no “right” God, there’s only people thinking they know how a possible God feels about things, as if He was an individual. That’s the stupidity of religion. By the way, Allah is just “God” in Arabian.

@piptherational, Open the kids mind real quick, show up things that might help him learn. Don’t just shit talk. He’s obviously young, maybe he hasn’t thought about it himself very much.

HigherThinking (6) (@hefan14) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

@piptherational, ummm…okay…but have you ever wondeedr in our society it’s all like “we should treat all people fairly,” and stuff like Muslims and Hindus, but the minute you bring Christianity into the picture, all hell breaks loose!

Why would you care about what atheists think? I already know what they’re going to say with all the details. I care about people when they don’t tell me what they don’t believe in. Think of someone you’re hanging out with just telling you what he or she does not agree with, using arguments that will never inspire you.

I’m totally unimpressed by the lack of formality here with addressing this guy’s question. Shit’s kind of rude. If you can’t use any method of reasoning to deduce a point, then go back to school, quit this new age shit, and shut the fuck up yourselves.

Anonymous (364) (@) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

@hefan14, Nope, society is unequal, always was, always will be. We are the makers of our own demise. And the idea that when Christianity is ‘brought into it’ that all hell breaks loose is not based on logic, it is based on societal norms.

@hefan14, The bible is a great book, just as the Torah (OT, right?) and the Qu’raan. They are very wise books, but it’s fundamental for one to comprehend that if God exists He would of course use way more methods than just words. Words are too limited, don’t you think? Experiences, feelings… God has way more kind of communication with us, in my opinion.

@beyond, lmao, I said you make me laugh hard.

Think outside the box of christianity. There is much beauty to behold in the world of now.

Anonymous (22) (@) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

One thing you and many Christians have wrong is you believe we atheist don’t believe in a God.
There isn’t empirical proof to say a God exist meaning we are choosing to go with facts and not faith.
If I tell you there is an unicorn in your car that is invisible and tell you to worship him, then I am obligated to prove it to you. If I cannot prove this invisible unicorn to you then, your not choosing to believe, your choosing to be realistic.

The burden of proof is on the claimer.

@chodebalm, And for the “I will try not to get offended part”: Since I believe in Christianity, of course some things will offend me….but again, I just want to see the other POV.
