Basic tips for meditation?

Hello! :) I am fairly new here and I have been scoping and reading around the forums of the site for some time and completely captivated by you guys. My problem comes in the form of meditation. I know what I’m supposed to do but I don’t know if I’m doing it correctly, actually I’m pretty positive I’m doing it wrong. I probably did it once or twice right after my highs or i dont know if im making myself seem like i’m doing it right or if im just zoning out…
I start off by sitting outside on the grass, taking three deep breaths and concentrating on one object or closing my eyes and focusing on my breathing for a few mins but my mind always seem to wander off into my little thoughts. lately its been happening a lot and i just cant seem to do it.
So i need some new tips that your sure that will work??

@m837, I created a calm meditation pandora station. I think helped me get outta my mind a little but small thoughts always pop in you just have to make sure not to follow them too much. Try and push that thought away when it comes in. Atleast that’s my understanding. I am about to check out those 2 links though.

@m837, think of meditation as a surf board and positive/negative vibrations as the waves. you always want to ride the best positive wave for as long as you can. you can optimise your meditation experience, but at the root of meditation, it is focusing your mind/body/soul on the next positive step in your life. do not try to solve riddles while meditating, just intend that the best possible solution will occur.
