being buried vs being cremated – does it make a difference?

Simple question: Do you think what is done with your body has an affect on the afterlife? (if you believe in afterlife) If you think it does affect it, why?

I’m asking because I just don’t know what to think about this…

If the afterlife has something to do with other people living after I die, then I’d rather come back as a zombie and scare the shit out of them, so I prefer to be buried, unless! I got sliced in pieces, I would be an ugly zombie then, or I die in a fire, that’s basically an unexpected pseudo-cremation.

But then again, zombies should not be pretty.

I think being buried and decomposing naturally is probably the best; I have no evidence yet of what happens to the conscious self after death. I’m assuming it either disappears or goes somewhere else. But if it sticks around the body for a few days, what happens when someone starts removing your organs for donor transplants? Does your consciousness become separated as bits and pieces of you are taken out? But then again, what happens to your consciousness as you’re slowly decomposing?

I would like to be shot into the sun, so that my body (whose molecules originated in supernovas and whatnot) could return back the sun.

I don’t believe in afterlife (wouldn’t afterlife just be extension of this life, hence still “this” life?), so i think people should go out with a bang

I think I would like to have a green burial and not be pumped full of poisonous formaldehyde/expensive casket. Burning causes pollution.

I think I would like to die in the mountains and be eaten by a grizzly or wolf, perfect recycling.

As for your spirit: some religions think you shouldn’t be burnt, some do. Believe science instead.

Rip out all usable organs and donate the rest to science.

Let them up and coming doctors open me up and learn what is what. Cremation and burial seem like a total waste of something that could be used by the living for scientific and medicinal purposes. Since there is no evidence that the body is anything but a decaying mass of flesh and bone after death, burial rituals seem like superstitious nonsense to me.

Though i do like the idea of coming back as a Zombie…

Well, one part of me thinks i should probably donate my body/organs to whoever needs it but the other part of me likes the idea of just leaving my corpse in the woods for the maggots and foxes.

It doesn’t matter to me whether I’m cremated or buried. I’ll be dead so why does it matter. When your dead your dead.

I think I would like to be cremated and have my ashes spread somewhere close by in nature. Then if relatives were to visit, they would not have to visit a creepy graveyard.

Well, I would like to be buried so that my body can feed the rest of the world and maintain that life flow, if I got the chance to live, why shouldn’t I return the favor?

You were and was always here. You are in YOUR body and will be here when you are OUT of it.

I don’t personally think that what happens to your body after death has anything to do with your spirit. But I would like to be dropped in the wild for some animals to eat, and if that isn’t possible than just cremated. But honestly I don’t think I will really care what happens to my body once I’m dead;)

I don’t really like the idea of being buried. Seems a little to heavy for me. I really like the idea of being burned. Not cremated but like old times where a body is burned on top of a stack of wood and you have like a veil over you. Idk what it is but that type of burial really reasonates with me.

I think I will end up being cremated only because I have this insane fear of being dead then coming back to life in the ground – I know this is impossible these days but I cant help it. either that or being laid out in nature to decompose and become food for animals.

@m17lee, i really like your idea, i think that would work for me as well.
