What are your favorite documentaries?

Mine is from the world renowned anthropologist Wade Davis on buddhism, definately takes me back to the essence of what I learned in Nepal.

My friends made me watch the history of the self, the history and rise of individualism, psychotherapy, marketing and capitalism.

O SHIT! I have been watching Documentries like crazy lately! two of my favorites are A Crude awakening and it is really informative about oil, and FOOD Inc. is a must for literally everyone. Looking at both of these documentaries together has really influenced my view on what life is going to be like in the next 50 years.

I just watched this documentary on the 100 greatest (scientific) discoveries last night, and it was hosted by Bill Nye. I love that guy, and I learned a lot from it… :)

@ martijn did you mean century of the self? i saw that one. The most recent documentary i watched was exit through the gift shop. It is about the life of a frenchman and how his documentary on street art became a biography about him. Considering the circumstances of the filming, i thought the film was great. It is not comparable to the documentaries you listed although.

It’s a 9 hour documentary, but it’s worth it.

@ Jimmy, yeh I meant century of the self, good catch! What did you think of it? Isnt it amazing that most, if not all, our desires and tastes are being manipulated by corporates working with psychologists? Definately recommended watching for everyone.

I heard about exit through the gift shop, would you recommend it to HE?

@ Ibrahim, could you give a short commentary on what the arrivals is about?

My friends are really into the zeitgeist movement and, even I dont agree with all the solution to the real problems they set out to solve, I think their mission is very noble and it is starting to get recognition.

Has anyone seen the third zeitgeist movie? Or knows anything about it?

It’s not the most scientific (or serious) but I really enjoyed Bill Mahr’s “Religulous”

iamjimmy (27) (@iamjimmy) 10 years, 10 months ago ago

@martijn I would definitely recommend it to the HE community. It even kind of relates to century of the self! Just not as clearly laid out. Its interesting to see the effects of street art on “the masses” and why artists dedicate their lives to it. Not to mention this movies really displays what following your “bliss” really is. And i thought the century of the self was really interesting, i cant imagine what kind of secretive stuff is going on as we speak. Im about to start watching “the power of nightmares” which is supposed to be great, il post on here when im done.

@ Martijn Well the zeitgeist movie is a fuckin illuminati kinda shit..
The Arrivals is a series of short videos that are aimed to show us all the religious signs that prove the foundation of all requirements for the existence of the Anti-Christ.

From Pop Singers to hollywood actors;

@Martijn and @Jimmy just watched Zeitgeist 3. Some great truths worth the time.

[Hidden]
Sander Ottens (1) (@sander) 10 years, 10 months ago ago

@ ibrahim could you explain me/us why you think zeitgeist is illuminati? I think you just talk about zeitgeist 1, Martijn was talking about the 3th movie, which is not about religion but it’s about changing the economic paradigm to another a so called: resource based economy.

Jordan Lejuwaan (23,445)A (@jordan) 10 years, 10 months ago ago

Watching the 3rd Zeitgeist movie right now and it is PHENOMENAL. It’s so much better filmed and well put together than the previous two. I’m half-way through and it’s already a must watch. Will be posting an article and an official discussion on it today

Sounds good Jordan! I will try to bring some heavyweights in for the discussion then! :D

If you like the stuff about the monetary system and such from the zeitgeist film, you will most likely enjoy “capitalism: a love story”.

Catfish was phenomenal. It’s a very enlightening look at our current our state as a society with technology and more specifically- facebook. It was disturbing for me, because it shows you some people that you wouldn’t think existed doing things you couldn’t imagine. Check it out.
