Best Vaporizer

vivaciouslyv (@vivaciouslyv) 8 years, 11 months ago

I’ve smoked weed sporadically for a few years now but recently have increased my consumption. I live in a dorm room and have met a great group of friends that smoke a few times a week. We want to purchase a vape so we can smoke in our building. Any tips/reviews on which vape to get?

Thank You :)

@vivaciouslyv, Personally, I LOVE my Magic Flight vape and it is perfect for the dorm rooms. A magic flight isn’t like the other vapes it’s a bit smaller and looks like a wooden pencil sharpener http://www.magic-flight.com .

I have been using it in dorms for the past 3 years and it is perfect for that with little smell. But it doesn’t hurt to take the extra precautions when using it in a dorm room because it still can smell! Now here is the thing, it is great for the dorm room, but it isn’t great for smoking with a bunch of people. It is good for smoking by yourself or with a few others other wise it’s a hassle.

It does come with a lifetime warranty that covers everything, even your own stoned stupidity. I have already broken one by dropping it off a roof, and customer service sent me one within a week, they are absolutely fantastic and understanding. I would highly recommend it, but keep in mind this is not something you want to be passing around to 4 or 5 people in your dorm room. I would consider a pen vape then. But with pen vapes they are stinkier and smellier. The Cherry Magic Flight box looks so good, I might see if I can trade mine it for that!

@brainnectar, There’s seven of us but we might get two vapes. The main concern is the quality of the high and the smell. It’s getting annoying to try and find places to smoke in the city (other than apartments of course).

@vivaciouslyv, Hmmm, I wouldn’t suggest vaping anywhere in the dorms with 7 people. A little risky don’t you think?

vivaciouslyv (24) (@vivaciouslyv) 8 years, 11 months ago ago

@brainnectar, Not as risky as you would think. There’s actually about 20 of us, but the seven of us who spend the most time together are investing. It’s riskier to take the whole group out and pass a bowl or joints. There are few secluded places around and it is too big of a group to smoke in plain sight.

Not even a discussion, hands down the Volcano vaporizer is the best vaporizer in the world. You should already be familiar with the volcano if you’re a smoker; it’s what they have in fancy Cali and Amsterdam cannabis clubs. It’s a forced-air vaporizer which is different than most because instead of sucking hot air through a chamber of weed to get your hit, the machine pumps hot air through the weed for you and collects the vapor in a bag. You can then detach the bag and pass it around the room like a balloon. You can attach any size bag for any group of people. For personal use I use a small bag that holds about 8 hits, and a 3x larger bag for parties. The large bag can pretty much get 5 people ripped in a couple of minutes.

The germans engineered the Volcano, and it’s built to last. It’s more hi-tech than most of your kitchen appliances. I’ve had mine for 3 years already and expect it to last another 3. Vaporizing is already a smart choice, and the volcano is the smartest buy you can make. Cost me about $650 for the best version which most people gasp at, but it’s honestly the best investment I’ve ever made. It is so much more efficient than smoking, a bowl of weed goes 2-3x further in the volcano. I had a similar setup with my friends for a year, was about 6 of us potheads living in the house together. Everyone used the vape every day. It was as common of an appliance as the T.V. We all probably saved thousands of dollars on weed and were high pretty much all the time.

Only thing to consider, you’re going to love it so much it’ll be hard to decide who gets to keep it after you guys split ways in the future. You should throw down on the majority so you get dibs haha.

Additional notes I took from this old thread: https://www.highexistence.com/topic/vaporizer-vs-smoking/

“My first experience ever with mary jane was in a volcano vaporizer, and it worked extremely well. I’ve heard that most people don’t get high their first times smoking, but after 20 minutes the first bag had turned all my senses up 400%, and I was melting into the bed. My first 20 highs were on a volcano, and were all the most intense experiences I’ve ever had, comparable to even my DMT trips. I slowly gained function and trained myself to handle the high–but that’s a phase all tokers go through, it’s not vapor specific.

Months went by that I didn’t smoke, then I got a new job and a huge paycheck. The first thing I bought was a volcano, and it’s been my best purchase ever. The bag is super easy to fill up and pass around. The hits are smooth, the high is clear, and it’s more than twice as efficient than burning the ganja. I just celebrated it’s 1 year anniversary and estimated I’ve saved $2700 in weed! The volcano is a top-line equipment at ~$650, but it pays for itself within months of use. 1 ‘bowl’ in the volcano can fill 5 bags of vapor to get someone as high as 2-3 bowls smoked. Every day I get high, and every day I thank the volcano for saving my health and hobby.

Also not yet mentioned is the taste of vapor… it tastes so good!

At 360*F you begin to vaporize THC, but are still at a low enough heat to vaporize flavinoids without destroying them. Instead of harsh smoke, you can taste/smell the subtle and delicious differences between strains. Some are like farts, others like cotton candy. All potent when done at the right temperature, finely ground. Like Max said, there’s a lot of technique in it, and one of the most important ones is getting a good grinder that nearly powderizes your herb. More surface area for the heated air to come in contact with. Also stirring your pot after refills to keep it loose.

Some vaporizers are weak and don’t properly heat the material hot enough, others too hot. I believe some prefer the ‘smoking’ experience simply because combustion releases 100% of the high that they might have missed out on from a crap vaporizing method.

My experience from precise digital temperature vaporizing is that 365 gives the full punch of a bong rip with the taste of an edible, and is not too hot to burn the organic material or too hot to release the undesirable cannabinoids that make smoking feel like that ‘heavy’ load.”

After thinking about it more, the Volcano is probably not ideal for a dorm room. It is less smelly than smoking in the building, but in a different way gives off even more fragrance because the weed oils are being wafted throughout the room. Also it’s a little cumbersome. It’s kinda big and you have to plug it into an outlet. So it’s not very portable in that sense and unplugging and packing it up in an emergency would still take ~45 seconds. I keep mine in a duffel bag but it’s still kind of conspicuous. If you were to get caught and your dorm room searched, it would be difficult to hide in time and a tragic loss on your investment if it were seized.

As others are suggestiong, the magic flight launch box might be a better option. I’ve had one and it works okay, just nowhere close to competing with the Volcano. It doesn’t have much power to it and takes some practice to get the sucking technique down. But it’s extremely small and portable, my friends and I even smoked it down the aisles in a grocery store as we did some late-night shopping. We got a decent buzz off it and it was about as sneaky as you can get. The hits are a lot smaller so you’re not exhaling a giant breath of vapor, would take a trained eye to even notice. Downside is the size and low strength means you’ll have to pass it around a lot and repack it probably 3 times before you got 7 people high off it. It’s like the chillum of vaporizers, kind of a minimalist’s product.

I’d recommend something inbetween the volcano and the launch box for your uses, but I don’t know what that would be. Unless you feel very secure in your dorm and not worried about getting raided, then I’d say the Volcano hands down. It’s the machine to have in the comfort and security of your home/apartment or a legal setting.

@versai, Is vaporizing even an option for medical patients if it doesn’t release all of the cannabinoids? The “heavy load” high is what some people actually need to relieve their physical pain. Just curious.

@versai, Yeah what Cody says about the launch box is true. I usually use it up the mountain snowboarding. It wouldn’t be ideal passing it around a room of 7 people, but the chances of getting caught would be slim

@chadbeland, Vaporizing is still very good for medical patients at the higher temperatures. My friend who introduced me to weed and the volcano actually had it for medical reasons. It’s the cleanest way to go and he’s had his volcano for almost 5 years now and says it’s the only thing that helps him. He used to have a whole collection of medications he needed to take, but now it’s pretty awesome that he doesn’t have to take anything at all. The vaporizing weed alone has helped with his pain and appetite and overall mood.

What’s so awesome about the volcano is that it’s one of the only vapes with a precise, digital temperature setting. I can set it to any degree up to 446F. Here are the actives in weed:

∆-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)
Boiling point: 157*C / 314.6 degree Fahrenheit
Properties: Euphoriant, Analgesic, Antiinflammatory, Antioxidant, Antiemetic

cannabidiol (CBD)
Boiling point: 160-180*C / 320-356 degree Fahrenheit
Properties: Anxiolytic, Analgesic, Antipsychotic, Antiinflammatory, Antioxidant, Antispasmodic

Cannabinol (CBN)
Boiling point: 185*C / 365 degree Fahrenheit
Properties: Oxidation, breakdown, product, Sedative, Antibiotic

cannabichromene (CBC)
Boiling point: 220*C / 428 degree Fahrenheit
Properties: Antiinflammatory, Antibiotic, Antifungal

cannabigerol (CBG)
Boiling point: MP52
Properties: Antiinflammatory, Antibiotic, Antifungal

∆-8-tetrahydrocannabinol (∆-8-THC)
Boiling point: 175-178*C / 347-352.4 degree Fahrenheit
Properties: Resembles ∆-9-THC, Less psychoactive, More stable Antiemetic

tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV)
Boiling point: < 220*C / <428 degree Fahrenheit
Properties: Analgesic, Euphoriant

So a 350-365F setting on my volcano gets out the more euphoric and active mind-high without the heavy load. Then I usually turn up the temp 10 degrees or so eventually to ~430F to release out the cannabanoids that give the body high. My friend and medical patients would use that higher setting most often for a really clean, sedating high that lasts for many hours.

If you can get 250$ together the PAX (http://www.ploom.com/pax)

Its a bit overpriced and a little difficult to clean (you need to find a pipe-cleaner that works well but after that its pretty easy ) but the combination of stealth, build quality and temp control is sweet for a dorm room vape. You can basically smoke anywhere and it does not smell too much ( we literally use that shit in our room all evening with a towel under the door and no trace is left after I burn a stick of incense. But you could just as easily sneak that thing anywhere, pull it and put it away before anyone realizes what happened. It also does not attract attention if you have annoying room checks or whatever so you don’t have to worry about leaving it out.

lol potheads

Volcano is always the winner, but for price reasons and the dorm thing it may not be an option. You can look into the Vapir NO2, which is the only one I’ve bought and it’s still working great 2 years later. http://www.overstock.com/Health-Beauty/Vapir-No2-Vaporizer/6298168/product.html Maximum temperature is 400 so you /may/ not be getting all the high you can get from higher temperatures. The effects of THCV and CBC aren’t that well explored, and THCV may block the reception of certain cannabanoids, while CBC may have more analgesic effects.

I don’t experience a difference in pain relief between smoking and vaporizing, but the latter is easier on the lungs. It depends on the individual.

I’d get that PAX if it werent so much $$$

Gonna have to say Arizer Solo if youre looking for a portable. Ive owned one for about a year and its similar to the pax but cheaper, around $130. But it also produces better quality vapor and has more temperature settings.

You can also buy adapters to use it with glass on glass pieces

I hear volcano is best, but also most expensive. There’s a company that makes what is called a Silver Surfer. I have the less extravagant version called Da Buddha which has the same mechanism, but doesn’t look as fancy. Standard vape where you pass around a whip. Holds a decent bowl for a party and you can easily adjust the temperature to control how much it burns, so it is perfect for a dorm setting. Highly recommend it.

I have used a number of vapos, but my personal favorite is the ol’ hardware store vaporizer. That’s what I call it any way. I went to Sears bought a Craftmans industrial heat gun and got a bong from my local headshop and IMHO its the best vaporizer out there. Plus the heat gun comes with a nifty little piece that works perfectly as a bowl.

volcano is mad loot. Good quality but way too expensive. either get the Airizer Extreme Q which is the more affordable, less “perfect” form of the volcano but still extremely good quality vape. that or the pax ploom if you want something portable.
