A fictional religion which exists in Kurt Vonnegut’s ‘the cat’s cradle’
“Live by the foma* that makes you brave and kind and healthy and happy
@sameerm, I love Cat’s Cradle. One of Vonnegut’s best works. Bokononism definitely works as a great criticism of world religions. As for the quote you posted, it definitely sums up my views on religion. I don’t think there really is any sort of spiritual realm. Rather we are just highly evolved animals who have certain chemicals in our brains that produce “religious experiences.” Science has shown that its actually quite healthy to be spiritual. So I think Bokonon is right. Realize religion is a lie, but believe in it anyway because it will make you a better person
@sameerm, No matter the “ism” – it all works as it works whether anyone understands it or not. We may formalize, organize, institutionalize all we want – it’s all a bad joke. Sad thing is those who waste an incarnation based on silly ideas of power seekers and charlatans. Ahem, yet so it goes. Don’t make good, don’t make bad. Peace, Love & Light ~ ricky
@sameerm, I feel that I need to clarify, as I lean very strongly towards Buddhsim. Is it, THE one, or the best? I do not see it that way. “Sad thing is those who waste an incarnation based on silly ideas of power seekers and charlatans.” I would say that this comment reveals a feeling of sadness from compassion within my heart towards those who may go about their lives based on wrong teaching, especially if it’s not of their own doing.
