I was having a discussion with my mother about my plan for the next few years, and I’m not really sure what I’m doing yet. I told her I want to spend my life doing lots of different things – I seem to have a lot of stuff going on and a lot of very different interests (live music/singing, DJing, producing electronic music, circus skills, promotion and event planning, etc etc) and I want to follow all paths, and somehow integrate them together. She replied by telling me that you can only master one or two things and that your life has to mainly be focused to one thing, one ambition, one path.
This doesn’t make sense to me. I can see why someone might argue that, but surely life is about exploration of everything that you feel a calling to? I’d like to know your opinions on whether or not an individual can follow many different paths at the same time, and if it’s possible to live a realistically non-hectic and happy life whilst following different callings. cheers all x
@mazquerade, I really don’t think it’s bad to have multiple interests. I am all over the place with my hobbies and passions… and there are so many more I want to learn! The great thing is what I’m doing is always different. One week/month I could be focusing on cooking a lot and hooping, another I’m writing and reading a lot, another I’m focusing on music, and yet another I paint and draw a lot. I’ve always thought it would be a great idea to choose a little more focus for my interests but I have yet to, and so far it serves me just fine. When it comes to creative interests, there are no rules… Do what calls to you and I think the “right path” will come naturally.
