Cannabis induced psychosis

I have used marijuana on a fairly regular basis for about the past four years. For the first year and a half I could smoke bowl after bowl with no problems whatsoever. Then, about three years ago I got curious and tried salvia. That was the first time I experienced, full-on, psychosis. Sometime later, I took a small dose of shrooms and somewhere around 15 hits of weed and experienced psychosis again, but I attributed it to the magic mushrooms. Since then, I have experienced psychosis, solely from weed, about three times. As little as four hits from a bong has sent me into a state in which I felt complete dissociation from reality. Has anyone else had any similar occurrences? Is it possible that the salvia “opened the door” to this mental state, which I previously had no ability to access?

From my understanding it could be from numerous things. Your mind chemicals could have been altered and your mind is naturally now building a poison every time you get high which is causing you a temporary psychosis.

You may have an underlying psychiatric disorder which has been triggered by the salvia and has lowered your threshold to cannabis which also triggers psychosis.

You may have caused yourself a brain injury and may need to get a CT scan and ease down on the drugs for a while.

It’s either one of these things. But definitely look into it, I’ve seen some friends become really messed from psychosis, it’s not something to take lightly.

Ok, that’s what I was worried about. I’ll definitely look into it. Thanks for the feedback!

personally i love a certain amount of memory pattern obscurities. paranoia is a different story, but psychedelic drugs are psychedelic drugs, and in essence i believe cannabis is one of the (if not the utmost) potent psychedelic drug there is.

I smoked pot that was laced with PCP when I was 14. Completely lost my mind, Spent the next 3 years recovering from panic disorder and flash backs. I stopped smoking pot completely for 2 years because I associated that bad experience with it. Many years later, I have learned to control my flashbacks and I now smoke pot every day and love it. Only once in a blue moon do I feel myself headed towards psychosis or a panic attack and its usually when I haven’t eaten anything.

I saw a therapist for this, she said some people are prone to panic disorders, pyschosis and mental disorders…and it takes one traumatic experience to bring it out of you…weather its drugs, a death, stress from money…ect. Eventually it would have came out one way or another..unfortentally drugs just help let it slip out.

Learn to cope and deal with it and life will be easy. Embrace it….sometimes it can be a wonderful thing.

I’ve had a similar journey and now, when i smoke, I kind of walk that line between the psychosis and this ‘normality’. I sometime wonder if the psychotic side is the ‘reality’ I most feel myself belonging to. Really weird tingly feel of positive energy that makes me want to step into the psychosis and lose myself in it. The more I peer over the edge the more I slide down into the rabbit hole.
