Consciousness; A reflection of turbulent neurons.

In a quest to understand spirituality, and science in harmony, the final step is always consciousness.

Spirituality would not exist if we were not conscious, and science explain nothing if the only existence was consciousness.

Science is the pursuit of understand action and reaction, events over time that deal with matter, energy, and the fundamental forces such as gravity.

So far, most of what happens on Earth can be explained to at least some degree by science. The sun setting, the Aurora, the blue sky, the green grass, the cold winds – everything seems to have explanations thanks to science.

The larger and smaller you observe things, however, the harder it is to connect the dots. So by no means does science explain all.

Spirituality often speaks of life after death, morality, and ethics. Things are right and wrong. Shoulds and shouldn’ts are abound in spirituality, while science leaves these words out.

However, science has found that consciousness is deeply correlated and connected to the human brain. If we remove parts, damage parts, or poison parts of the brain, consciousness reflects these changes. Upon altering the chemistry of the brain, so too is the consciousness altered.

We know that the brain has something to do with consciousness. People who go into coma’s can sometimes come out with no recollection at all – no experience, no consciousness during the entire event. Not coincidentally at the same time the brain is completely asleep.

But spirituality and science don’t mix well. The laws of science will never be violated – ever. You will never create energy from nothing, and you will not perform an action without enough energy to do so. Therefore, we must separate science and spirituality. They must take place under completely different circumstances. Science – within the physical, spirituality, within the spiritual.

The only possible explanations then, of consciousness (which seems completely spiritual as it weighs nothing, has no energy, and does not exert a force on matter) is that it is intimately dependent on, but completely separate from the physical body. The only analogy I can think of this is that it is a reflection of the turbulent brain – the emergent network of neurons create consciousness.

The other explanation is that science will come one day to explain it. To unravel the mystery that is consciousness, just as stars were once Gods.

I think consciousness is currently being created with the neurons.
but i think truth has to connect science and spirituality. In order for it to remain truth. Just the fact that there are laws of science, is spiritual. Its like faith. But we understand it. Theres still parts of spirituality that we dont understnd… but we will one day. And once we understand life after death, or understand manipulation of gravity or spirits or whatever, once we learn it, it will be called science. To me, everything is spiritual. Cells dividing…thats spiritual, theres creation there. And everything spiritual to me, is also scientific. Its like we can understand that our knowledge and understandings and feelings and decisions are all scientific psychology or natural selection… its all connected

Have you read Christof Koch’s ‘the neural correlates of consciousness’?
