Hey fellow psychonauts, I have some questions for you today about one of the least commonly used psychedelics — Datura / Jimson Weed / Devil’s Trumpet. FYI This baby grows naturally in many places, and has been used by shamans for centuries to achieve magical states. It is also the substance that was reportedly used by witches to fly, change into animal form, cast spells, etc.
It’s pretty damn interesting.
I recently found out that the best way to get Datura into your body is through a skin ointment, since the skin does not absorb Atropine (the chemical that makes ingesting large amounts of Datura very dangerous). The skin does, however, absorb Skopolamine, which is what you’re really after ;)
1) Has anyone made this ointment before, and if so could you share your recipe? This is one of the queries for which Google has failed me.
2) What were your experiences like?
It reminds me of the drug from Batman Begins. a fear inducing hallucinogen derived from a blue flower
@seeker, Awesome thank you!
For others interested, I also found this article to be very informative + it includes a basic recipe:
Shitload of reports.
@jordan, I have to ask – why are you doing this?
To test yourself? To just say you’ve done it?
Its an interesting drug, that is for sure, but the positivity gained from it seems to be minimal and far between. I can name a number of other psychoactives that would probably lead to better insights, while maintaining still new experiences…
I also am excited for you to come back and say “Wow – what everyone says about this is completely wrong. This is an amazing drug!”
It seems a lot of people who take this drug are just doing it to “get fucked up” and are bored with reality, ending with a huge cock slap in the face, and a demeaning of the morality of one’s soul. :P
Meditation brings a sense of fullness and completion, and is the only permanent source of tranquility available to human beings. All other forms of serenity are temporary and dissolve into conflict and chaos over time. The euphoria of drugs quickly lead to misery and self-destruction. The wholesomeness of love, so beautiful and ethereal, is a relatively short lived and fleeting experience. As J. Krishnamurti said, meditation brings order and “That order is the order of the universe. It is irrevocable and doesn’t depend on anything.” Meditation is the eternal essence of nature taking on conscious form within the mortal human frame.
@ijesuschrist, The main reason I’m trying it is because users show a history of meeting an ‘ally’, or their spirit guide. Anything that allows for a shot at that is worthwhile in my book! Plus for the experience. Whatever doesn’t kill you…
Also relevant, I’ve since read that you are doing too much if you are having open-eye hallucinations. The correct dose will give shroom-like effects, but with more inclination towards out-of-body experiences and direct contact with ‘beings’. I’ve also been reading more about how the process is extremely person because Datura will fuck with you if you haven’t been respectful. It’s not something you just do, which is the way most of the people with these bad trip reports have done it.
I wish you luck Jordan, definitely post back with your own results and recipe once you’ve had some experience. It’s truly the psychonaut’s dream to explore all cavities of reality and our mind. I think you would be a humble candidate for what Datura has to offer.
@jordan, Alright man, well you have my goo lucks with you. Just absolutely be sure that if a dosage doesn’t work – do not double it. Go up very slight amounts at a time.
@tine, mescaline, I’d love to try ibogaine, ayahuasca of course, salvia divinorum (one high hit just for the experience of complete derailment of reality), fly agaric mushrooms (make sure to cook them to avoid my mistake!), so far absinthe has been giving me mixed result but I may delve into wormwood a bit further. I can’t tell if its just being drunk or something is really going on here (clairvoyance seems to be very strong with this drink). Others I cannot think of any, LSA is similar to LSD (hawaiin baby wood rose) but gives a terrible stomach ache if you don’t extract with ethanol (another mistake of mine).
I have some khanna powder, but its a serotonin reuptake inhibitor so 1) needs about 3 days to take full affect and 2) not sure if I really want an SRI…
Kratom is something to be enjoyed if you are the lucky few who can take high doses without the bad side-effects – its only an opiod though, so nothing psychedelic.
Just found out a close friend has a datura plant growing naturally in his back yard. I told him about “devil’s breath” – pure scopalamine, which leads to essentially “mind control” effects – and they were so taken with it they’ve begun collecting seeds.

I’ll definitely keep this thread posted if I or any of my friends brew up some witches’ brew…
@ijesuschrist, in regards to the your ibogaine curiosity, I’ve been doing a fair amount of research on the substance and a friend and I recently obtained some. We plan trip together with me on a lower dose and his a little higher. I’ll be sure to let you know what I find post trip (:
@jordan, Don’t know much about or have any experience datura, but a friend of mine made tea from jimsom weed and long story short ended up in a mental hospital for two weeks. A common saying i’ve heard for datura and my friend has backed this up is “Can’t pee, can’t spit, can’t see, cant shit.” Hopefully the information you’re getting about applying it topically is reliable. In any case best of luck and safe travels.
I haven’t really read the other posts yet so I’m not sure if this book has been brought up, but any one who has any interest in datura or psychedelics in general should read the following book:
**THE TEACHINGS OF DON JUAN BY CARLOS CASTANADA***
Truly, not only is this an absolutely phenomenal, eye-opening piece of literature but it also sheds some very helpful light about the Datura plant. Devil’s Weed is NOT SIMPLY A FUN DRUG TO DO AT SOME MUSIC FESTIVAL. Datura is a spirit, it can reject or accept you. If you don’t prepare the weed in a very specific way (VERY very specific) then you almost guarantee yourself not only a bad trip but also bad spirits. I’m not superstitious, this stuff might sound kind of crazy, but Datura is a spiritual entity that interacts with you.
Basically, don’t attempt to make/do/involve yourself with Datura unless you’ve read substantial literature on it or have someone to guide you through it. It has the potential to be enlightening and as amazing as any other psychedelic but ONLY IF YOU USE IT RIGHT.
~*~ light and love ~*~
I only know Datura from Assasin’s Creed Revelations. There are 9 types of bomb you can make, 3 decoys, 3 stun and 3 kill. Datura bombs are one of the kill bombs that poison you to death, and the reaction of those exposed to it look really unpleasant.
