Another question about dreams

Di (@dida)7 years, 10 months ago

I just had a crazy dream during my day nap. ( I also noticed that during the day time, my dreams are always either negative, don’t make sense at all, scary , or so many at once).
But my question here is, WHAT ARE DREAMS? How is it possible that they are so VIVID! So realistic? And the people that occur in them… Do we choose them to be there or are they there for some reason, have they made a choice themselves to be there at that moment?

Are dreams as real as the waking life? Why or why not?
Or are we just continuing the thinking while sleeping and they are just our thoughts making up a “picture story” ?
Or what do you HE think? Please share any of your thoughts on this, as I am and have been super curious of this subject for the past few years.

Also- consider this question- ” What will it be like to go to sleep and never wake up? – Alan Watts.
IMO- Wouldn’t we just “continue” the existence based from our thoughts?

Well, I think dreams can almost be like a look into our future.. I often have dreams then a few days later experience the very same situation and/or conversation as my dream which usually tends to through me off and cause major deja vu. I also think they are possibly a look into what you want out of life and yourself or the people around you. I think sometimes they may be of your fantasies or wishes, and maybe just your mind playing around and experimenting. As for nightmares, I don’t understand them at all. I have some very cruel and unusual nightmares that I don’t understand at all. They don’t fall into any category I have ever heard of having to do with dreams. I sure hope its not a look into my future, I surely don’t want them to happen or be performed by anyone else, they aren’t a fantasy or wish, and I can’t see why you mind would experiment that way. But, how do you really study dreams and how do you decode them? Are they really even codes? I don’t seriously think there is an answer to what a dream is or means. These are just thoughts..

@dida, Besides, a person can always lie or forget about their dreams. I don’t know that I would trust some scientist to tell me the meaning of my dreams and what an open or closed door means as I have read a section of a book having to do with this..

@dida, For me dreams are thought process in your mind that at some point did not complete an entire idea. These loose ideas that did not make sense during the waking time will be placed somewhere in our brains. At some point when a person has less sleep and more waking time, more loose ideas will pile up. The brain during waking time cannot make sense of these loose ideas as the brain will focus on your desired task while awake. To compensate the brains function on these loose ideas piling up, when on sleep, it will automatically create a link between one another, sometimes not even your idea, just to make the brain function better when waking time. Thus, there is also a chance that you will do things on de javu coz it was programmed previously on your dreams that youj may have forgotten. This is just based on my experience. Hope it helped.

For me? dreams are as real as walking life, but not like there’s some other life we are living but because it’s all in the subconscious (although there is something called the astral body but idk shit about it). But yeah, I take the side of freud in that they are symbols from the realm of our sunconscious which comes out to the surface (or rather we dive in because we have little to none input from the outside world). So it is real, it’s our inside universe which is far stronger to our impressions than our everyday conscious life. That’s also why it always seems to make such perfect sense while we are dreaming, but when we wake up it’s totally nonsense. That is because as symbols they don’t mimic the outside world but fit in as part of another scheme…

@dida, Dreams are weeeeiiiiird lol. I feel like dreams come from a combination of things, partly from your wants and desires and partly from what your subconscious thinks could happen in the future. So it takes these two and combines them, kind of like a test run for your mind, but since its your mind creating the world you are in, the rules governing it are very loose, which is why sometimes dreams make zero sense. Then I believe that other dreams are your subconscious mind’s way of trying to communicate with yourself, since it cannot just have a conversation with you. Then it becomes a matter of interpreting your dreams.
If dreams interest you, you should definitely check out lucid dreaming if you haven’t already, some cool shit there. I’m trying to do it myself

@dida, I think you get different types of dreams.

Most dreams in my opinion, tend to stem from your subconscious mind and are related to your daily waking life happenings. For example, if in your waking life you are scared of losing a loved one, this might manifest itself in your dreams in form of you losing a tooth. Am I making sense?

I think lucid dreams where you can actually control your dreams are a different story. I used to lucid dream a lot when I was in my teenage years and I used to find them highly enjoyable. I think it’s a bit like you are tripping but your mind has total control over the dream.

And then you get other types. For example,I have actually had a dream when I was like 10 that my aunt had died, and the next day she dies, frightening! Prophetic dreams are actually common amongst normal people. I don’t know how science or anything can explain stuff like that. I find it fascinating.

Sometimes I have horrifying nightmares where I create something in my mind that bends all my knowledge and twists it into something that makes no sense but does at the same time.
I wake up from the fright but can still feel the presence of the dream. I vaguely remember it but I can still feel it’s strong presence. Last time I had a dream like this I had lots of things running through my mind but all I remember was feeling like a skeleton in a bed made of flesh.
I hate these a lot and I think they come from stress that I don’t understand.
Thoughts anyone?

How do we know we aren’t in a dream right now, or how do we know if this is all real? What if everything that we ever thought existed didn’t actually exist, but our consciousness led us to believe it does, and this life is really just a dream?

Nothing on this is real. We are always in a dream. The mind creates what we call reality, like it does in q dream. Like it happens in dreams you hurt, laugh, cry, run, get angry, make jokes, have sex,do business, anything that u do while awake. Dreams are your short lives which you have while sleeping. Have you ever realized that if you are a short on
money, many times you try to get. money in your dreams and fail as much as in

its weird to me because I have had dreams and then years later i feel like random aspect from that dream, a random person at the same time appears to me at a random place that I may now be best friends with, at a place I work and supposedly John did get that scoop of nutella from that exact purple spoon exactly the way my brain said it was going to way back four years ago.

i’d like to think its the me in the universe telling the I that I’m on the right track. i’m EXACTLY where i’m supposed to be, and everything is lining up exactly how its supposed to be

@dida, Hi Dida. I would suggest checking out Carl Jung’s books. Carl (and I) believe that your dream is a manifestation of the subconscious. What ever is going on in your life is generally represented by metaphorical symbolism in your dream. Your dream will tell you where you are currently at with your day to day life dilemmas. Handy to take note of your dreams and see how they relate to your day to day life which should help with decision making.
One example for you: We were selling our house and no offers had been received.
Then I have a dream where I am fishing with my son and we catch a fish on our line but we didn’t reel it in – there were also other fish in the water.
Anyway the following day we get a great offer and go ‘sale agreed’ (this is not a binding contract) but the deal falls through (we did not reel in it) and yet a week later we had 2 people bidding against each other and we ended up selling for more than the first offer.
Anyway. Observe. Digest and reflect.
May the Light of God be in you, come out of you and be all around you. Amen

@monica9494721, Sounds like some sort of prophetic dreams to me! That’s pretty cool!
I believe that there is a way of finding out what dreams really mean, as I believe there is an answer for everything :) We just gotta dig deep down into our selve to find all the answers. :) A tunnel of self-discovery/ universe-discovery. :)

@animehigh31, “For me dreams are thought process in your mind that at some point did not complete an entire idea” – I have stumbled upon this same idea, somewhere recentlY! :)
So, do you think our dreams have any significant purpose/ reason that connects with our waking life?
Or that it is some sort of out of body experience and our soul is really experiencing all this that is happening in our dream? Perhaps, all that we are creating with our thoughts.

Di (239) (@dida) 7 years, 10 months ago ago

@goglosh, “dreams are as real as walking life, but not like there’s some other life we are living but because it’s all in the subconscious” – I agree on that as well.
Ah..it’s such a subtle subject! I could go on and on and my questions and wonders about it would never stop!

Di (239) (@dida) 7 years, 10 months ago ago

@smortlur51, Oh yes! They indeed are weird!! ;o haha
I also believe that it is a combination of our desires and a result of what we have thought created into an image->dream.

Oh and about lucis dreams!! I get more then excited when I hear about it! :D
But from what I can remember now, I dont think I ever had any. In a way, that I wasn’t able to control my dream. I have tried some methods but didn’t really help. Only gave me a crazy vivid, horro dream lol. I started being aware it’s a dream and since it was all negative , I wanted to get out of it (wake up ) but I couldn’t!! It was as if I was stuck in a dream! :o Then I slowly started being aware and awake , but it kept pulling me back in. Pretty crazy experience.
And I also remember when I used to smoke alot, weed that it, I had the most vivid and cool dreams. It was literally going into some fantasy- magic worlds ! :) Ah, I really wanna go deeper into what dreams really are and wish I could achive Aware dream – where I would choose to comunicate with different dimensions :D

But back to the beginning, it makes me wonder if while we dream, is our soul having out of body experiene and all that has happened in a dream was a real experience ( some sort of unconscious meditation/ going into the Self), or are we just creating everything with our thoughts? But then again- our thoughts create EVERYTHING. *%%*&%^*&^(*!!!!!! ;o crazzyyy!!
I can’t wait till the day I will be able to know the answers to all my questions! :P

(sry idk if i made any sense , my english is poor ;p )

@newday, Well hello there again Newday! :D What’s your name btw? :)

“For example, if in your waking life you are scared of losing a loved one, this might manifest itself in your dreams in form of you losing a tooth. Am I making sense?”
– In my mother’s case, everytime she dreams about losing a tooth and there is a blood , someone will die. It happend 2 or 3 times already. It’s like a prophetic dream!
Also about the symbolism- I have come across many websited that explain the symbolism of certain thing that you dream about, but somewhat, I can’t convince myself to believe it all the way. Here is the only website that seems most legit to me tho. check it out if you want, and let me know what you think :)
http://mythsdreamssymbols.com/dda.html

I alwayes wanted to lucid dream but no luck! :(
Did they come naturally/spontanousley in your teenage or were you able to lucid dream consciuosly? Or perhaps have you used some methods? I wonder if everyone is able to lucid dream. I believe so, but then what does it depend on? Do you have to unlock something in your brain? Hmm….

Prophetics Dreams can be somewhat scary but I belive “useful” at the same time. It’s some sort of a discovered skill of yours!
After all, it allows you to see into the future!

@michaelheyn, Great point! And those questions cross my head many times. I wonder……

Or what if we are dead right now and all our life (previous or whatever) is flashing in front of our eyes right now ? ( which we call/think is this existence)

Ah…the Quest of searching/questioning/finding out….never ends!

[Hidden]
Di (239) (@dida) 7 years, 10 months ago ago

@magus-master, Your message got cut out or you didn’t finish I believe :)

And yes, I believe they both are real , but then why do dreams even exist ? Why do we dream when we sleep? Whats the real purpose for that?
