Favorite Bottle?

DaJetPlane (@lytning91) 9 years, 5 months ago

Simple question, so give me some depth with the answer: what is your favorite kind of alcohol? Be as specific as you can be with the name, flavors, intentions, location…as much detail as you can provide about it.

I’m a big fan of knowing the details behind a great alcohol.

I’m a wine fan, and have been since I was a child. My dad made his own Muscadine wine using grapes off of a vine that grew wild in our backyard. He has a recording of my trying to sip some of the wine through a wooden spoon. I love wine. I LOVE wine.

My favorite is 100% A dry, tannin-rich Cabernet (tempranillos are a fantastic brother). I love reds over whites every single day of the week. If you are unfamiliar with the robust flavor of a great cab, imagine the most earthy, wholesome coffee ever…now drink it with half a restaurant pack of sugar (yes, those little tiny ones). I like my wine more bitter than my coffee, though, but I love both.

Your turn.

I don’t drink much, but when I do I prefer Dos Equis. But really, I like the taste of a nice beer. I’m not a big fan of alcohol and every type of hard liquor I drink tastes like flavored isopropyl alcohol. I’d rather pay attention to the type of bud I’m smoking.

@stealf, Ugh…I don’t want to draw bud into this thread, so go make your own! =P

I’m not serious, but it would actually be a great thread to create an “Exquisite Strains” thread to discuss this same thing, if there isn’t already one (there wasn’t an alcohol one).

What is your most favorite beer you have ever tried? I’mma assume it wasn’t domestic.

Stealf (124) (@stealf) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

@lytning91, Yea, I don’t feel like drugs are an important part of this community so I’ll leave that to someone else to make a thread. And it actually was domestic. I live about 20 minutes from a brewery and steakhouse where they do everything from scratch and you can actually see the process in house. Its called Fourpeaks Brewery, and they make that awesome dark malty beer called “Kilt Lifter.” http://www.fourpeaks.com/#/the_regulars/KiltLifter/ For someone that doesn’t drink alcohol much, this was one of the most enjoyable, flavorful beers to date.

Rum and coke, or gentlemans jack, straight up.

I can’t drink beer anymore, i developed some sort of allergy to it.

I’ve been drinking the orange 4 locos before parties lately. There cheap and strong, but uugghhh i really prefer a more quality drink if I’m going to do it.

[Hidden]
Stealf (124) (@stealf) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

@bigred, Agreed that 4locos are pretty cheap and poor quality, but they do taste alright and two cans puts me to that perfect level.

DaJetPlane (994)M (@lytning91) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

@bigred, None of the things you mentioned are specific at alllllll. What type of Rum is your favorite? And I assume you are talking about Jack Daniels correct?

I hate Four Loco. I bought one of those, had like a 1/4th of it, and tossed that crap.

I didn’t read the post fully before i responded lol i thought you were asking what we drank period.

DaJetPlane (994)M (@lytning91) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

@stealf, I mean, you may not ACCEPT the prevalence of drug usage in the community, but I think it is pretty certain that drugs are an important part of the users in this community. That aside, though…

Yeah, that sounds interesting. I have not had very many legitimately prepared beers before. The one time I got a really great sampling of beers, it as at this party/show these guys I know were putting on. One of the attendees brought some of his home brews in the form of two 1/2 kegs. I can say it was…an acquired taste…that I hadn’t and didn’t require by the end of the night. It might have been the good stuff, but I was pretty turned of to it.

Observing the process sounds pretty awesome to observe. I know we have a winery here that I am going to visit when I turn 21 (3 months BABY!) and I just LOVE wine all the time, everyday.

@bigred, NO sir. Wanna give me your trusted label? I could use some pointers from a Rum and Coke expert, since I’m a frequent flyer of that mix.

Kevin (188) (@bigred) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

Ya im talking abut jack daniels. But gentlemans jack is much smoother.

We drink alot of types of rum, ron diaz, captian morgan, i could go on. Ive neveer noticed much of a diffrence with it though.
Ciroc is good for mixing too, they have some good flavors.
3 olives?? Whaat?? ;D

DaJetPlane (994)M (@lytning91) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

@bigred, I’ve had several different rums: Sailor Jerry’s, Bacardi (Reg, that clear one, Oakheart *Bad Night with Oakheart*), Captain Morgan (Reg, 100 proof, Private Stock), Malibu (Reg and Black)

Man, me and my roommate basically finished an entire 1.5 of Bacardi Oakheart in celebration of the end of Fall Semester 2011…we got SO smashed. For some reason, we decided that Cranberry 7UP would be a good mixer for rum…so we drank that all night, playing a Custom version of Pong we created for liquor drinks we call “Gentlemen’s Pong.”

I mean…he won’t ever drink it again…he said almost died from that night, and is fairly certain he beat alcohol poisoning.

Kevin (188) (@bigred) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

Haha gentlemans pong. Sounds fun.

DaJetPlane (994)M (@lytning91) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

@bigred, It’s fairly simple: the cups are smaller and thicker, so they can handle having less mass when they get hit by the balls. In fact, they are a little too rigid and it makes it hard to land the ball in inaccurately like you can with low-fill Solo cups. You have to play with liquor and you have to keep your elbow on the table when you shoot.

[Hidden]
Kevin (188) (@bigred) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

You have to keep you elbow on the table? How, from the sitting position?

[Hidden]
DaJetPlane (994)M (@lytning91) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

@bigred, yes. Gentlemen don’t stand to play pong, they are seated. We got really pretentious with it. You also use a regular dining room table, not a huge rectangular folding table.

Ahhh yes, i understand. I likee itt. ;D

Since i havent started to earn on my own i cant be all that extravagant on my drinks. i’ve had really cheap-ass liqour mostly. the kind that you wake up with feeling like you’ve got a chestbuster inside you.

but on my 18th birthday my friends presented me with a full of Bacardi white rum, my all time favourite. unfortunately, i downed the entire thing that night and died in a pool of my own vomit. they have a video of me chugging a full bottle of ketchup, (cuz i love ketchup) right before the catastrophe.

i did not have any bacardi for a coupla years after that :P
I was once fortunate enough to have a swig of Malibu, and it tasted like heaven.
all this may make it sound like im an alcoholic, but im not, lol…

my favourite alcoholic beverage was, is and always will be beer. Ah, the golden drink. Here you get a beer named Kingfisher and its my local favourite. Ive heard that in general Indian beer is a bit stronger than others.
my favourites in beer are Corona and Budweiser. Btw, how awesome is Guinness? i want i want!

@lytning91, I dont drink much liquor these days/ But when i do, it is either bourbon, Wild Turkey Rare Breed, http://cocktailenthusiast.com/2011/07/13/wild-turkey-rare-breed-review/ (never mix high dollar bourbon with anything sweet, either on a rock or a little bit of water) is by far the best bourbon i have ever tasted. And i like Bombay Safire gin and tonic water. occasionally. Its been a while since i have had any liquor, maybe tonight will be the night!

However, I love beer and drink it every week. I love hops! India pale ales (IPA) and american pale ales are my favorite. Two Hearted Ale is probably the best beer ever brewed. New Belgium Ranger IPA is my go to beer and also New Belgium Belgo, a Belgium IPA, is amazing as well. New Belgium is the best brewery in America.

I also love red wine. I will choose red over white wine any day of the week. I am still learning about the specifics of wine so I cant give you much detail right now, but I don’t like it too sweet. I prefer Merlot, Cabernet, and pino noir.

If I drink a light american beer, my go to is a Miller Lite.

Please try the two New Belgium beers I have mentioned, they will change your life, especially on a hot day. The high temperature where I live today is 109!

Has anyone ever tried a bourbon ale (beer)? It is an ale that is fermented in an oak barrel which was previously used to age bourbon. It is pretty good, just not as good as an IPA in my opinion.
