What’s a quote that really helps you get back up on your two feet? What quote makes you optimistic?
“Experience is a brutal teacher, but you learn. My god, do you learn.” – C.S. Lewis
And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost.
Revelation 21:5 – 6
Saw this yesterday, which made me think damn. “Life is indeed terribly complicated—to a man who has lost his principles.”
Touché…I heard Doug Casey talk about this in one of his “conversations with Casey”. He basically said something like “people no longer have any life philosophies which they believe in…”.
Those words shook my brains caus I somehow instantly knew how true they were. I didnt have any myself back then, but I sure as hell understood the significance of a firm belief base and life principle and claimed one after some digging.
Mark Twain once said: Do the thing you fear most and death of fear is certain.
The quote at the end of Castaway, when chuck is explaining how he stayed alive and got off the island:
“I knew, somehow, that I had to stay alive. Somehow. I had to keep breathing. Even though there was no reason to hope. And all my logic said that I would never see this place again. So that’s what I did. I stayed alive. I kept breathing. And one day my logic was proven all wrong because the tide came in, and gave me a sail. And now, here I am. I’m back. In Memphis, talking to you. I have ice in my glass… And I’ve lost her all over again. I’m so sad that I don’t have Kelly. But I’m so grateful that she was with me on that island. And I know what I have to do now. I gotta keep breathing. Because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring? ”
It’s that last bit that does it for me:
Because tomorrow the sun will rise. Who knows what the tide could bring?
“The unfortunate event can be a source of inner strength.” – Dali Lama
Seriously, I say break the funk before you reflect on it; you get some ridiculousness into you, lose the depression, then fresh eyes can analyse. The last thing I want is to be patronised when I’m not feeling the greatest, so I look to the fool, who doesn’t give a shit about my mood, he just does his job.
“If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, but you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.If it kills you, it kills you. A man must constantly exceed his level.”
“Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swaps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists… it is real… it is possible.. it’s yours.”
For every dark night there’s a brighter day-shakpac.
« You have been told that, even like a chain, you are as weak as your weakest link. This is but half the truth. You are also as strong as your strongest link. To measure you by your smallest deed is to reckon the power of ocean by the frailty of its foam. To judge you by your failures is to cast blame upon the seasons for their inconstancy. » Gibran Khalil – The Prophet
“When I was five years old my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand ‘life’.” – John Lennon
