Finding musical inspiration

Do you know of a substance/psychoactive/supplement/practice/psychedelic/entheogen/diet/medication/fast/meditation/chant/breathing exercise/etc. anything that opens you to a state of awareness where every note of musical frequency sounds heavenly? Or detailed? Emotional? Has depth? Texture? Vision? Does this work for writing or recording music as well?

Coffee sometimes gets me recording beats for an hour before the crash and end up tweeking out on some part that I later have to throw out because I over complicated.. But by that point I would have basically recorded a whole improv beat.

Im interested to find out what methods people use, maybe find what advantage musical geniuses have had through history- is it the same for listening and recording or writing music?
Or any form of expression?

What inspires you that makes you want to play music or makes you really appreciate the sounds?

I don’t know if that’ll help you as you probably already know this one, but I’d simply say weed.

Most of the times when I use that one I find myself understanding musical patterns more easily and so being intuitively able to play something that sounds nice, melodic but still caring about rythmic, never too slow but always carried by the flow…

Works for playing as much as for composing, writing, after all it’s all the same, words and rythm are sounds on another dimension, and everything is a sound in absolute terms. (don’t know what the truth of physics says about this statement, no idea. don’t bash my face though.)

I experienced it just yesterday for painting too, but yeah here and in music too, there’s always like a part, some peak during which everything goes perfectly well, you’re satisfied of your creation at the same time you’re creating it, but then eventually it goes down and starts the descent, you want to make your art look like something particular, you makes it become too much and you ruin it.

So unless you know exactly when to stop, everything you create end up in the thrash :D

I think that’s the hard part in any form of art, knowing when to stop…

Hope that helps, and have a great day sir !

The sea inspires me the most. For some reason I am entirely attracted to music that reminds me of the sea. I’m not talking about music that is lyrically relevant to the sea, but musically, as in the tones of guitar, tempo, beat and depth of sound. I do live by the sea and love it, some songs just make me feel the same love. I am pretty sure that the ideas of physical vastness, depth, unknown and inhospitable environments are what attract me to that music.
Additionally, the sky and space create a similar sensation though not quite as strong. This though, only helps me slightly when trying to write music. I have a hard time being creative and writing music I really like.
So as mentioned before, the physicality of the ocean, sky and space, common features such as their vastness, depth and mystery are what inspire me.
A late reply but hope this helped in some way :)

fresh energy, find fresh energy. adventures through fresh energy -grab it out of the environment with your lungs and recycle it through sound.
