Focus

Recently I have begun to notice that my focus is crap. I multitask to much and don’t focus on what I am doing. Overall, my awareness is pretty awful. Because of this I have decided to do one thing at a time. If I am listening to music I will listen to music. I won’t listen to music while another activity fights for my focus and awareness. When I eat I will eat and really focus on the taste. When I brush my teeth I will feel the bristles on my gums. I want to immerse myself in whatever I am doing and hopefully my focus will follow.

Thoughts?

I like your thinking sir. I may have to try this too. I find myself trying to do too much at once lately. kinda relax, unload the mind and get back in touch with life

It sounds like it also helps you to appreciate the moment.

Certain activities, like listening to music, enhance the quality of other activities. Multitasking in itself isn’t bad. It’s which activities you pair that creates a conflict of interest (like watching TV and doing homework, etc.). I wouldn’t do everything as separately as possible, but the idea of being more aware is good.

PS you could try meditation, that certainly builds self discipline and trains the mind to focus.

I have been doing this lately as well, especially with eating. If I eat then I focus on eating. Tasting and appreciating the food as much as I can.

Great idea sir! I’ve been doing it for awhile now and there´s a name for this, its called mindfullness meditation. It´s being completely aware of what one is doing at that moment, not getting distracted by anything else. (focus = non-distraction). The ultimate test is to remain focused on something that is not interesting/exciting from itself, if you can focus on that you can focus on everything, na?

I also wrote an article on this for HE: https://www.highexistence.com/the-art-of-meditation-stop-being-a-zombie/

I’ve been wanting to do that, too, Harrison. I’m finding it difficult. =| Need to work at it more.
