I have recently read a wonderful book! Called the Happiness Project, by Gretchen Rubin, for those of you who have not read it; I highly recomend it. Anyway, Ive decided to embark on a happiness project of my own. One year, starting June 1st, dedicated to making a happier, more positive me. Dont get me wrong, im very happy already, but I cant help but think that I could be more happier, that I could be more grateful and thankful of everything life has to offer. I am going to dedicate. each month to work on a catigory of my life, and each week for the subcatigories. I am just curious, what makes you all happy? What brings you the most joy, gratitude and bliss in your life?
Hellooooooooooo. You should listen to this. There’s an interview with her (the author) in the beginning. https://www.highexistence.com/topic/say-no-to-happiness/
I find it kind of impossible to make people pay attention to this, because it’s called “Say No to Happiness”. Happiness is really just a word and most of the time is an illusive goal, not like taking a moment, and embracing it and enjoying it. Searching for “happiness” really puts a lot of pressure on you! And people, approximately 100% of them, are really pretentious and always find problems everywhere, just becaues they are used to always “fix” something and convince themselves that they need more than what they already have. Quite sad. There was a quote somewhere which said “happiness is a choice”. I believe it’s not a choice, it should be habit. I am absolutely sure. :)
All about this song makes me happy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7lOEnnBAeM
Making others happy makes me really happy! There’s nothing better than watching someone’s face light up because of something you said/did for them, very rewarding. Plus, doing things for others is the best way to get over yourself and your problems – its humbling, and you (usually) realize that your problems aren’t quite as terrible as you thought.
Sharing the happiness I have! When I help other people become happier, I do too! There is a really great quote from Buddha that just came to my head (and I believe there is a version of it on this website), “Hapiness is like a candle. Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle and the life of the candle will not be shortened.” I like to think that the candle’s flame grows with each new lighting!
The ultimate goal of my life is to be happy and not that I am not happy already, but as you mentioned, there is always a way to be happier in life. Some things that really make me happy include nature, friends, family, making a difference, inspiring others, teaching, and playing sports. In fact, happiness has scientifically been proven to increase productivity. Here is a short video that is very inspirational and it talks about this topic:
Having really close connections with other humans makes me happiest. When something is just there, just clicks, between you and another person. It reminds me I’m alive and that I have an effect on people, while others have an effect on me. That’s an amazing feeling. But you can’t force it to happen, so there’s not much “project” to it, other than always being open to possible connections.
