What is one thing you can do this week to heal the community/ world around you?
I would like to see this list grow so that we can all see from different view points what initiatives we can take to be proactive in our community and to be aware of what we can potentially do to heal the world!
What a great challenge!
hmmm…. well ive gotten my family to eat more vegetables recently~ My stepfather had a heart attack a few weeks ago (he eat basically nothing but meat and beer and wine) and his doctor told him he needed to become a vegetarian, so im sorta helping them reacquaint themselves with healthy eating.
umm- I found a turtle in the road the day before yesterday that had had one of its legs torn off and couldn’t crawl off the hot pavement. I rescued him and cleaned him up and cooled him off under the faucet. Alas, he died anyway. Hed lost too much blood by then. But i like to think i eased his passing…
so maybe turtle world is a little bit better.
Ah, if it were true that there was something wrong with the world, that turtles should not die, or that people should not reap the rewards of their eating habits, that the world could actually be fixed or improved….on, if that were true! Then I could be special. Then I could be. How much I so want to be!
@panthalassa I’m so sorry to hear about your fathers condition but I am happy he is ok. You’ll be giving him the care and love he so desperately needs. I’ve been through a similar situation and what I can say about that is it will be really tough breaking his habits and he WILL wear you down over time but the bond created from this moment will be unforgettable. As for the turtle, poor little critter. I’m sure he felt the help you were trying to give him and that you did ease his pain a little.
@tall-sam That’s great! I too have struggled with accepting myself for a while now and I have so much anxiety but I am working on it. Seeing you gaining friends or rekindling past relationships gives me hope for myself! I just moved to a new place and I’m definitely more introverted so its a little challenging for me to make real friendships.
@howardholmes Death is inevitable it is a fact of life. Other things you’ve mentioned though like the reaping of rewards of eating habits…not sure what you mean here but I’m guessing you mean the rewards you get from eating the right foods and vice versa. That is definitely something that is in the mind and that you choose to either over eat or be healthy. You can change so many things about your own life if that’s what you want. Lots of will power, dedication, and the right mindset can get you there. We are all special in our own ways we may not be special to the whole world but to one person we may be everything. Just reading the passion you have about it shows me you definitely are capable of making this world better :)
I find that being willing to let yourself not seem “ideal” may help you overcome social anxiety. I used to worry about saying the right thing, standing the right way, being right all the time. Real friendships come from people who know your flaws and limitations yet still accept you. I am no pinnacle of popularity but those who I call my friends are really my friends. I heard this once “You might be the tastiest, juiciest, and most wonderful peach the world has ever seen, but not everyone likes peaches”.
