Could anyone recommend some good books on the topic of universal awareness or anything about energy in the universe? Please and thank you!

I highly recommend “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle
It will give you some understanding about who you really are.. and that’s the first step.

Then i’d recommend a big fat DMT/Ayahuasca trip.

Zen and the art of happiness.
Probably the most important book that got me on the right path.
It teaches you to acknowlege every situtation as a blessing from the universe.
If you can read and understand it; you will then be open to fantastic discoveries in your life.

@papashibshib, Can you still travel spiritually on a DMT trip? Like can you explore the astral plains? Or do you just observe them?

I only ask because I’m meditating and making fantastic progression, I just want to know if you can explore because I like exploring. :p

@peaceriot, I’d argue that without mind altering substances, you can’t understand the true potential of the mind/spirit. Those that claim to have been to the edge of time without psychedelics are simply lying.

Not saying psychedelics are the root of all spiritual travel, but you can only voyage so far without a canoe.

@peaceriot, My AYA experience is that sometimes reverent observing is the grandest exploration….

@arenotlost, I don’t have a dictionary on hand, can you repeat that in terms I could understand?

@ballsackturtles23, was just responding to @peaceriot, query about whether “you can you still travel spiritually on a DMT trip? Like can you explore the astral plains? Or do you just observe them?”

And was just saying in my experience through DMT some of my greatest exploration of the astral planes has simply been quiet observation.

Feel like I’m just saying the same thing over – kind of fading for the night.

Peace and love.

@ballsackturtles23, “I’d argue that without mind altering substances, you can’t understand the true potential of the mind/spirit. Those that claim to have been to the edge of time without psychedelics are simply lying.”

I don’t believe that. Human beings can achieve great things. It may take a couple tries at psychedelics to gear your mind for it but I don’t believe they are a necessety. Were you able to transcend time? All psychedelics do is make you release more DMT than normal correct? If that’s the case then it is most definitely attainable. I’ve so far seen the constallation in my minds eye. If I can achieve that without psychedelics and 4 months of meditation who knows what I can achieve in my life. The beutiful thing is I do not need psychedelics to acheive it. They are good for blowing the door wide open but why rush? You litterally have your whole life to figure out how to achieve a higher state of existance. It’s a beautifully natural thing and I think if a drug can trigger it then we can definitely achieve it. And access it whenever we want. Sorry for all the mispells I’m juggling homework when I shouldn’t lol.

@peaceriot, No, that’s not correct.

Your brain has receptors, and the foreign molecule fits in the receptor slot. Salvia works on the Kapa opiod receptor, DMT works on Sigma-1. Mescaline/2CB work on different things. It alters your brains perception of reality.

Scientists don’t know really what DMT does in your brain. But the fact of the matter is, the oldest indigenous cultures ingested plants, and they believe it showed you the “spirits of the plant”. These spirits can be contacted no other way. Some of the plants had DMT, the Native Americans had Peyote. The Mayans used Salvia/Mushrooms.

Psychoactive shamanism may be the oldest religion in the world an predates written history.

@ballsackturtles23, You pose a good point. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it’s the only way though. I mean for you it could be. DMT is supposedly the spirit chemical. Just because those civilizations needed that aid doesn’t mean they had life figured out. Who knows. I could be wrong. It’s just very limiting to permanently decide that there is only one way to do something.

@peaceriot, I’m not saying it’s the only way to do it. There are many spiritual practices.

That said, what is encountered on psychedelics can’t be encountered another way. The same way you aren’t gonna get drunk without drinking alcohol. I don’t care if your a buddhist monk or not, you’re not gonna be able to synthesize molecules endogenously to become drunk just by willing it. Same principle applies to psychedelics.

@ballsackturtles23, Well you said,”I’d argue that without mind altering substances, you can’t understand the true potential of the mind/spirit. Those that claim to have been to the edge of time without psychedelics are simply lying.”

Just seemed like a one way statement. But whatever dude it doesn’t really matter. To each is his own. And I completely understand what you’re talking about don’t think I don’t. Definitely can tell a correlation between psychedelics and spirituality. Being drunk just numbs you to the realization of whats around you and keeps you anchored to this dimension. The third one of course.

I didn’t get to this guy on time because I just don’t see him on the discussion anymore. But he tried going down a dimension instead of transcending. It’s like.. Why would you want to meditate to be 2 dimensional? Unless you’re looking for blues clues and you are blue skadooing ;]

@zachb, The Kybalion, it’s exactly what you’re asking for. There was a topic about a few hours ago that got me really interested in it, you might start there to get an idea of it. I’m on chapter 5 now and it’s really interesting. There is an audiobook version on youtube and that’s where I’m reading it.

Back on topic for a minuite… usually when I hear someone say “help me expand my mind” I just wanna disagree with everything they say.

A good practice is taking the opposite viewpoint of something you’d normally take. The catch is actually believing it. For example, say you are pro-choice. Convince yourself you are wrong, and debate the opposite of what you usually would. Keep this frame of mind for about a week. Do this with every belief you have, and I promise you, it will expand your mind!

Convince yourself everything you ‘know’ about reality is wrong. Hold onto the opposite beliefs for a few weeks, then go back to normal conciousness.

This is some old Aliester Crowley/Robert Anton Wilson occult shit, but I dig, and if used right it works wonders (assuming you retain your sanity upon returning from the minds of others)

@zachb, It isn’t the material you read, it is how consciously you read it. If your head is in the right place, you can learn more about the universal reality, God (or whatever you want to call it) from a children’s book than you can from a scientific paper on theoretical physics.
The key to life: relate.

[Hidden]
Dan (890) (@danfontaine) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

@zachb, Oh – and always discern.

Relate, discern, relax, and focus.

And you’re on the fast track to surpassing Einstein and Da Vinci.
