How would you like to see High Existence progress as the numbers climb, the members slowly unite, making real life connections and lasting friendships. How would you like to shape the future of HE?
What are some ideas to reduce the “clutter” on this site. I respect the search for knowledge, but you can only ask “Should I smoke weed?” so many times in a thread before you annoy someone for not just searching for the topic yourself and reading the MANY posts about your exact topic. I would rather not help those who cannot or chose not to help themselves.
What kind of community events would you like to see in the future? Possibly an all HE concert ( I know we have a few talented artists on here ) the proceeds going to Valhalla or HE itself. Somehow to get people face to face, laughing, talking, arguing, to show them that “a small group of thoughtful people could change the world. It’s the only thing that ever has.” There is power here to do something great, day to day changes that are almost impossible to notice that build up to when you look back, everything is different.
How would you expand HE? What kind of marketing would you like to see ( or lack of marketing for that matter ) how would you grow this project as if it were your own?
And what needs to be changed, let us face our weakness and turn it into a strength. No system is perfect, but how can we better this one? What kind of mental changes can we make to promote an open dialogue, what structural changes would you like to see in place to streamline the ground breaking thoughts, while leaving the rest behind.
HE is as great as it has ever been, constantly changing, lets make use of that, set our minds to task and re-focus on what really matters. With everything that HE has given me, I think it time to give back, tenfold. If I can use this as a tool to impact someones life, the way it has mine, then I want to wield it with devastating effect. To change how we live, we must in turn change how we think, and the best ways of doing that is to read, for words how the power to change your life. So how about it HE? Shall we have a form of Modern Civic Citizenship, based not off the color of your skin, but by what you believe and how you choose to live? Can we unite and together become greater than than the sum of our parts?
@josephm, I am computer dumb. Smartphones only make me feel stupid. For those of us less inclined to know, could you explain what a more detailed search engine would allow users to do, the differences it would have in comparison to what we have now?
@vanguard, great post brother. Excellent topic.
HighExistence has a natural pulse and evolution of it’s own. But to truly reach it’s potential, it requires attention and care from the users. Like trimming a Bonsai.
I agree with @joesphm about there being many threads of the same topic. Like a picnic blanket scattered with half-eaten sandwiches.
Though a more refining search and classification system would help. I don’t believe it will completely solve this one problem.
We as a community need to step in also. For example. When a fellow HEthen posts a new discussion that we know to have been previously discussed, we need only post the link to the older thread in the new thread and encourage the new discussion to migrate to the older. That way it keeps older threads with more input and perspectives alive. Rejuvenates them even. It saves people repeating themselves or becoming tired of see the same topics posted over and over. It also gives the HEthen posting the newer thread a chance to get the responses they were searching for. Kind of, a “Here’s one we prepared earlier” deal. And in a world obsessed with instant satisfaction, how could this not help? :)
There is a responsibility that is bestowed on every HEthen to do all that they can to nurture this community. Some can do more than others and that is how it is supposed to be. It’s how a true community works.
There could perhaps be a list of ‘starter’ threads provided when you join with regularly posted topics. Like @josephm suggested they could be linked to hearts or amount of discussion. Ideally I guess there would be a few core discussions on popular subjects. Searching through the information could be annoying, so the large topics could perhaps have individual moderators who were willing and available to help out with information. There’s a lot of really great stuff here, but it can be difficult to find.
@vanguard, I love the idea of a HE concert!
I would like to point out that as HE gets better, not every voice or idea is going to be able to be heard, but I mean that in a vague way. An example would be in a town hall meeting type situation, every voice can be heard, but not every topic can be talked about, due to so many people wanting so many different topics, if we could streamline HE based ideas, approved by the community ( number of <3's ) and get an open forum where every voice could be heard or at least involved in the discussion much like a town hall meeting, maybe a groupchat type feature but I am unsure how that would work in realtime ongoing discussions, other than a chatroom type feel. How do we grow the website and the community while keeping the same standard of feel to things?
@vanguard, I definitely think we need some sort of way to meet up in person. We need to figure out a way to link a, sort of, mapping website to HE. People could go to this website from a link on HE and place a pin where they are located. Then they could start contacting everyone in that area and start doing meetups and what not.
If anyone happens to know a website for this, that’d would be awesome! If there isn’t already one that you can do this with, I see an opportunity…
We’ve got young, excited, closed minded minds awakening into brighter thinkers polluting the goal to move forward. No one wants to be the wolf and lead them (these minds) forward to whatever “high existence” they envision. They’re “existing” sheep. The only leader they have is too busy building a dream to lead.
Who will take the time to bring pollution to clarity, and clarity to universal serenity? The website doesn’t have a Martin Luther, and lacks a leader to inspire a series of events that would create that change.
So. You have what HE is now. A mass of minds thinking on a plateau.
We all need a leader.
@zencowboy, Of course it’s beautifully well put – it’s been mentioned hundreds of times through many accounts of minds frustrated with repetition. So much so, these minds no longer lurk here.
So, where do these minds go when they’ve made it out of this plateau?
And what do you intend to inspire, @vanguard, with discussion of leading HE to higher quality, watering its roots into deeper soils?
Because if it’s inspiration and awareness you intend to spread, I hope you’ve brought gasoline to ignite this fire.
@alexa, spot on. We vicariously beat the dead horse for the same information.
I totally agree with streamlining the process in the conversations that come about here at HE. I don’t know why, but I find myself despising the repetitious threads and rarely ever post anymore. I do want to hold conversations with like-minded people but I find the semantics involved in online dialogue confusing and futile. I can’t type like I can speak.
A chat room would be great, but it has been discussed before with bandwidth issues and the like
@vanguard, Love your town hall analogy! Great point.
“How do we grow the website and the community while keeping the same standard of feel to things?”
This is a good question, however. We have to be careful of allowing things to grow, whilst trying to keep anything the same. Obviously. The two conflict with each other.
The balance is maintaining integrity while accepting the changes that come.
Which I think is the long way of saying the point you are making. Ha.
People are gravitating to this site more and more, because they see the discussions being had. But more because they are drawn to the people making them. They aspire to be more within themselves and so seek us out to help them achieve that.
We should be flattered, but humble.
This site is about elevating EVERYONE in this community. The more diverse it gets the more we can reach and elevate.
But yes, defending HE’s integrity is the first responsibility of every member. Even before whatever is their reason for being here. People putting their Ego’s before anything else is what will erode HE’s integrity. So we must defend it even from ourselves.
The HE warning:
HighExistence is where over-inflated Ego’s come to die. This site is the bug zapper to the Ego’s moth.
You want to flex your Ego and stroke yourself? Go back to Facebook. That’s what it’s there for after all.
Perhaps we could add a new option to profiles where you can say whether you are “open to in-person meetups” and somewhere to add your location, and then have it send a notification when someone else who is “open to in-person meetups” joins that is within a certain amount of miles from you???
@vanguard, I’ll skip the technical changes because I don’t know how to make those changes. But personally I think it would be great for all local HE members to meet each other and start community projects. Start our own Valhalla, start food drives, build a community garden, something like that. If there was a way to incorporate/organize that through the site that would be awesome.
I kind of like the n00bs. The posts are redundant to you if you’ve been lurking on here for years, but the 182nd thread you’ve seen about someone’s first acid trip is brand new to someone else. And even though there’s a milli posts about acid trips, no two are the same…same shit different day, with a few new perspectives.
No joke though this site has really helped me; I was all buggin out when I started waking up, then I stumble onto here and I’m all “aww man life’s okay I’m just existing highly”.
@tangledupinplaid21, @reinvented2012, Such great ideas. I think it’s something a lot of HEthens would be into, as large meetups in specific locations never seem to materialise just because it’s difficult to organise. And it’s been mentioned a lot that people want to meet like minded individuals.
I think the possibilities are pretty exciting!
@martijn, could you make a feature like that?
(Perhaps we could add a new option to profiles where you can say whether you are “open to in-person meetups” and somewhere to add your location, and then have it send a notification when someone else who is “open to in-person meetups” joins that is within a certain amount of miles from you???)
@vanguard, Thanks for starting this thread!
@all thanks for all the suggestions! Please continue sharing your thoughts and ideas.
I think we should have a well working social module where everything is much more interactive. People can follow each other, posts, subscribe to interesting subjects, have relevant topics showing up, saving posts to your profile etc. I think the whole social aspect is very important, because it will give space to users being able to communicate among each other. Also beneficial to show ones interests and expertise (if preferable). Make it more of a community than it already is.
@filipek, those are awesome ideas too. A lot of people come here for the forums but I come for the like minds and potential friends. Having some features that make it easier to connect with people would be amazing. I’m excited for the future of this site :)
