High Existence – Lion Turned Child.

James Veritas (@Vanguard) 8 years, 7 months ago

How would you like to see High Existence progress as the numbers climb, the members slowly unite, making real life connections and lasting friendships. How would you like to shape the future of HE?

What are some ideas to reduce the “clutter” on this site. I respect the search for knowledge, but you can only ask “Should I smoke weed?” so many times in a thread before you annoy someone for not just searching for the topic yourself and reading the MANY posts about your exact topic. I would rather not help those who cannot or chose not to help themselves.

What kind of community events would you like to see in the future? Possibly an all HE concert ( I know we have a few talented artists on here ) the proceeds going to Valhalla or HE itself. Somehow to get people face to face, laughing, talking, arguing, to show them that “a small group of thoughtful people could change the world. It’s the only thing that ever has.” There is power here to do something great, day to day changes that are almost impossible to notice that build up to when you look back, everything is different.

How would you expand HE? What kind of marketing would you like to see ( or lack of marketing for that matter ) how would you grow this project as if it were your own?

And what needs to be changed, let us face our weakness and turn it into a strength. No system is perfect, but how can we better this one? What kind of mental changes can we make to promote an open dialogue, what structural changes would you like to see in place to streamline the ground breaking thoughts, while leaving the rest behind.

HE is as great as it has ever been, constantly changing, lets make use of that, set our minds to task and re-focus on what really matters. With everything that HE has given me, I think it time to give back, tenfold. If I can use this as a tool to impact someones life, the way it has mine, then I want to wield it with devastating effect. To change how we live, we must in turn change how we think, and the best ways of doing that is to read, for words how the power to change your life. So how about it HE? Shall we have a form of Modern Civic Citizenship, based not off the color of your skin, but by what you believe and how you choose to live? Can we unite and together become greater than than the sum of our parts?

@vanguard, How many active members are really on this site?

Ask everyone to contribute 5$ to set up some event – music, meditation, learning. A smaller version of EDC or Burning man. Something people are willing to travel to and support.

Just do it already.

I don’t think limiting posts or referring people to old posts is necessarily the answer. One of the great features of HE is the constant tide of new information that washes through each day and night.

An advanced search engine would be a a great addition, and organizing the searched posts by likes or loves or whatever would make the searching process much more efficient.

However, I do understand the annoyance long-time members experience when they see repeated posts. But removing them or stopping them isn’t quite the answer because that isn’t the real cause of frustration.

Members want to see new stuff and current events, and the three articles that will head the webpage for 1-2 weeks tend to get dull once you’ve read them a few times.

HE itself needs to step up and start posting more articles and events. Even if it’s just cool technology, new inventions, different ways of explaining theories/ideologies, shit that’s happening around the world. We need to give our existential ideas more context so we can actually see how they fit into reality.

Anyways, those are my thoughts on the matter. Cheers!

Whoever said HE was like a dojo was spot on. Though what that dojo is training you for is up to you. It may very well NOT be some big cultural revolution, it may well be personal, which is no lesser of a quest. I find that myself, it’s a good place to comb for interesting ideas to think about, fall back on when I need questions answered or my resolve recharged. But I think once somebody makes enough changes, they begin to be able to spend more time doing what they only wished they could do before entering the dojo. Like the path of the Jedi….when you’re a Padawan you live with your Master, and learn the ways of the Force. But once you’re a Knight, you go out on your own and do what you do, applying the lessons you learned and living your life. Sometimes you may visit your Master and catch up, but maybe you don’t as often because you are no longer a beginner. That’s kind of how I feel about the cycle of an HEthen. Someone may be very active initially, learn a lot, hopefully apply what they’ve learned, and as they do, they have less questions to ask. They may stick around but become less active, and new beginners show up – hence all the similar posts. It’s really a challenge what to do about that, because as a veteran HEthen I don’t like combing through thousands of weed, relationship, or life purpose threads but you can hardly blame a beginner for asking what they don’t know.

That being said, I would totally be down for a huge HE meet-up. In the least freaky way possible, some of you I really want to pick your brain, you’re real characters. I’d bet you’d be lots of fun to hang out with, and find new things to think/talk about.

@cristinelizabeth, I think you are really on to something when you say “making some kind of tour event that is accessible to the masses of interested HEthens”!
From this idea I envision a spoken word tour. We gather a small group of the most “popular” (for lack of a better word) members, the ones the lurkers keep coming back to read from. They could do talks from their perspectives each and then perhaps a Q&A panel at the end of the presentation. Etc, etc. We’ve all seen or know of the kind of thing I’m talking about here.
As the tour moved around it could “feature” home town HEthens. That way it would help keep a solid, fresh and varied line-up. Also it would help the tour as most couldn’t tour everywhere, all the time.
Each presentation could be recorded and then posted on HE for those who couldn’t make it in person.
The exponential explosion of connection by converging so many HEthen’s in one place for events like this would be massive!

There is so much potential with this idea!

In the build-up to events we could have members send in questions and topics they would like to here from certain “featured” HEthens.

I know there would be some who would be uncomfortable being in the spotlight like that or wish to not lose their anonymity. Which needs to be respected. Still they could remain “behind the curtain” like the wizard of Oz (ha) or out of the spotlight like Maynard from Tool.

I would definitely get behind (and in front of, if needed) something like this!

@tangledupinplaid21, thank you!!
Thats all I want from this place now.
I want to meet people and actually start teaming up with people who wanna spread love and keep humans moving towards new shit. I would love to chat on skype too.. I’m open to all options. Something direct and personal.
I’m bored to fuck of reading or responding to threads I never seem to get an in depth response from.

and new friends like you said.

@crackedout6pack, yeah, it used to be a lot more personal. Now there are so many people responding to any given question on a thread, it doesn’t really feel like a conversation most of the time anymore. That’s cool in it’s own way, for gathering as many opinions as possible and such, but I’m more about personally connecting. I know there’s so many lurkers on here that I would potentially be friends with that I never get a chance to talk to.

PS I see you like Aphex Twin. Thumbs up!

@tangledupinplaid21, thank you for responding.

So much the same way. I often end up personal messaging people and then sometimes I don’t get a response. Which sort of pisses me off since I thought this site was about that sort of shit.
Can I ask you some questions about how I can spread a message of awareness and unity through clothing via inbox?

ps. I see your blog post about the ego and I think it’s perfect!! I’ love for more people to know about that.

Great suggestions everyone, please keep them coming. I hope we can keep improving this site so that it can help improve your lifes in return. Please be aware that funds, time, coding knowledge and manpower are limited and that we will do the best we can with what we have. If any of your suggestions are possible we will definitely incorporate it in HE’s next version.

And, have an awesome day/night everyone! Thank you for your time and effort, I truly appreciate it!

@smileymoon, Agree. Most forums have sticky threads, and that works pretty well. Been that way for like 10 years, wonder why this site doesn’t have one.

@paralyticdreams
, There are sites like that. We’ve had a couple of threads about it, each one has generated a map with a bunch of location on it, but the threads died and so on.

@alexa
, A leader? On a forum that’s supposed to encourage thinking outside the box and stuff? That makes no sense at all.
The “need” for a leader is what’s holding mankind down.

@ all the people talking about tours, meetups, events, HELL YEAH.
Real world stuff is great, it’s lacking.
It’s so easy to just type things on the internet, it’s so easy to understand without learning and applying, and it’s so hard to communicate properly.

A community needs… well, community.

But hey, people, for now… what’s keeping you from calling or visiting other users?
Nothing, right?

@zencowboy, we should all pool in to purchase an RV , and gas funds.. and travel around and spread our message to people of our generation or anyone that’s interested. Start out small and then have musical guests to help us gather people. Oh hell yeah I’ll make this my life to travel and spread love and wisdom. It’s like TED talks w a twist of enlightenment and good vibes and nature and music .. and a craft fair.. or whatever.. lol. Let’s do it.

@alexa, Look, the bottom line is: many users on here are not seeking to change the world. This is not a website for organizing change in the world, it is a center for growth and learning. This site can be used to promote events and movements, but you presume too much. You are assuming, by speaking on our behalf, that we need a leader, a “Martin Luther [King Jr.]” Unfortunately, I believe you are mistaken. Trust me, I’ve tried starting something like this before…

[Hidden]
Anonymous (20) (@) 8 years, 7 months ago ago

@martijn, I know that advertisements aren’t a very appealing idea on a website like this…but you guys should probably start considering it if you want to keep growing. Eventually you’ll need to hire writers, editors, web developers, etc; and you’ll need funds for events if you ever decide to take that route. But a great way to incorporate ads into a blogging site is to, hypothetically, insert a link in-text, inside of a HE sponsored post. HE could also decide which companies they want to sponsor, so you could choose to only stick with conscious, responsible, eco-friendly companies.

ZenCowboy (179) (@zencowboy) 8 years, 7 months ago ago

@cristinelizabeth, musical performances mixed in. Excellent idea!
Your RV idea sounds like a great grungy first draft to something that could become much, much more.
I think this will be as natural evolution and an inevitable goal. We just might be a few years early with this idea. Time will tell.
But yes, I will be working towards making this a reality as best I can too.

@aimlesscreation, Speaking on your behalf? Don’t assume I care for you &or anyone else that much.

I’m merely sharing an observation.

[Hidden]
Anonymous (20) (@) 8 years, 7 months ago ago

@alexa, I didn’t assume you cared for me or anyone. Not that you don’t have the capacity to care, but anyways..

Your “observation” was stated as, “We all need a leader.”

Ummmm……. I suppose I’ll just let this one go (shakes head and walks away)

@aimlesscreation,

“This is not a website for organizing change in the world, it is a center for growth and learning.”

Learning without sharing or practicing what you’ve learned won’t make you grow at all. And you really can’t grow without someone with more experience giving you that information first that was probably from their experience. A great part of the members that were and still are active got to know each other by willing to learn from each other. A nice place to spend time on the internet would be having that kind of communication. Discussions, not comments like on youtube or facebook, because constant detached conversations will get you nowhere. That’s why @tangledupinaid21 is right. It’s that, everyone goes with the flow and the character of the majority of posts wil only attract the same kind of posts.

It’s all up to the members.

Also, it’s good to point out that when I joined I wasn’t searching for knowledge, enlightenment or anything of that narcissistic kind, I learned mainly from interaction with people, and honestly I’ve already had a huge base of understanding to this thirst,

Like @manimal pointed out very unfully, if you’re using the site right, you may learn how to be a better leader. Philosophically, everyone is a leader but social conditioning makes people pick favorites. Everyone is a leader because everyone is an owner of their own life. With that mentioned, moderated collectivity and connection is what matters.

If someone points out they are creative without being creative, it wouldn’t inspire creativity. Same thing with meditation or speaking memorized gibberwash.

If you want to meet up with people on this site, start a thread stating where you are from and willing to travel too. Im sure if there are other people in your area they will likely respond positivity. Then you can PM details. Simply simple

This could be a long shot but is there anyone in the south island of New Zealand?

@ijesuschrist
, Also made a good point about the amount of active user and how widely dispersed they are.

OOPS! @tangledupinplaid21 , mentioned right.

[Hidden]
Manimal (2,998) (@manimal) 8 years, 7 months ago ago

@aimlesscreation, Martin Luther is not Martin Luther King Jr. And the latter wasn’t so much a leader, while the former was.
Martin Luther is more known and had a much bigger impact on the world.

@martijn
, I don’t get it though, there’s lots of ready-made code out there that can just be copied and integrated, as well as modified to taste.
Lots of sites these days are made by “borrowing” code left and right, by people who can’t even code… so I think most of the suggestions should be possible within the boundaries presented.
