High Existence – Lion Turned Child.

James Veritas (@Vanguard) 8 years, 3 months ago

How would you like to see High Existence progress as the numbers climb, the members slowly unite, making real life connections and lasting friendships. How would you like to shape the future of HE?

What are some ideas to reduce the “clutter” on this site. I respect the search for knowledge, but you can only ask “Should I smoke weed?” so many times in a thread before you annoy someone for not just searching for the topic yourself and reading the MANY posts about your exact topic. I would rather not help those who cannot or chose not to help themselves.

What kind of community events would you like to see in the future? Possibly an all HE concert ( I know we have a few talented artists on here ) the proceeds going to Valhalla or HE itself. Somehow to get people face to face, laughing, talking, arguing, to show them that “a small group of thoughtful people could change the world. It’s the only thing that ever has.” There is power here to do something great, day to day changes that are almost impossible to notice that build up to when you look back, everything is different.

How would you expand HE? What kind of marketing would you like to see ( or lack of marketing for that matter ) how would you grow this project as if it were your own?

And what needs to be changed, let us face our weakness and turn it into a strength. No system is perfect, but how can we better this one? What kind of mental changes can we make to promote an open dialogue, what structural changes would you like to see in place to streamline the ground breaking thoughts, while leaving the rest behind.

HE is as great as it has ever been, constantly changing, lets make use of that, set our minds to task and re-focus on what really matters. With everything that HE has given me, I think it time to give back, tenfold. If I can use this as a tool to impact someones life, the way it has mine, then I want to wield it with devastating effect. To change how we live, we must in turn change how we think, and the best ways of doing that is to read, for words how the power to change your life. So how about it HE? Shall we have a form of Modern Civic Citizenship, based not off the color of your skin, but by what you believe and how you choose to live? Can we unite and together become greater than than the sum of our parts?

@beyond, Except you didn’t explain how I was wrong. All you did was go on a tangent and make generalized assumptions. Tsk, tsk you make an ass out of u and me. And I do not think I’m wrong. HE IS a center for growth, reflection, and learning.

@aimlesscreation, So you didn’t get at all that growth and learning is actually changing the world.

@beyond,

Sigh.

I understand perfectly well how knowledge and understanding are extremely powerful influences over change. What you must not have read, or understood, is when I wrote that HE is not a website for ORGANIZING change in the world. The key word in that statement is organize. As in to organize a mass movement. I never said that HE has no influence over change in the world.

One really cool thing that words can do is provide context.

@aimlesscreation, If it’s not a website for organizing changing the world, it’s for inspiring someone to organize changing the world?

This is maybe a unsignificant idea, but I think I’m not the only one who want’s to have a “practical” part on HE, you know, like tutorial of DIY stuff, with pictures and all of that, I think it will be a good thing….
Peace and glowstickers

“How would you expand HE? What kind of marketing would you like to see ( or lack of marketing for that matter ) how would you grow this project as if it were your own?”

I would like to focus for a minute, on growth. People seem to think there is a “ceiling” so to say, that once you find all you can from here, that the growth levels off, as Alexa mentioned, a plateu. Why is this and how can we change it? I agree, HE has grown almost stagnate, in terms of riviting ideas. We need to reduce the trivial posts. I’m sorry, but someone has to say it. I know that people will be offended… “I just joined, how could you say my problems with my boyfriend are trivial?” Because your post just pushed another post out of sight, out of mind, and there has to be a way to fix this. I can’t even bring myself to read half of these posts, to find the strength to say what has been said a hundred times over. How does the community as a whole feel about filtering or streamlining discussions, what do we really want to be heard on HE? I cannot abide that someones two hour, beautifully written, intelligent post will be washed away by the 30 second “So I like this girl” post.. I ask the community, because I am honestly lost. What do we do? Where do we go?

I think there is a lot of potential with the new version coming out. Maybe we don’t need to push the boyfriend/girlfriend or other so-called “trivial” things out. Maybe what we need to do is separate them. HE is a place where many people feel like they can go to let something out or get advice from people who care. The sheer response to these kinds of posts is a reflection of how much people here care about strangers. Is loving people as important as intellectual posts? That is a matter of opinion. But don’t we want to foster an environment where everybody can contribute? The current format right now with 3 pages of the most recent discussions could be changed. Maybe there could be an option to personalize your own HE homepage. You could checkmark the things you would like shown, like only show articles, quotes and videos and no discussion or only the few discussions you feel are worthwhile to you, like global awareness and personal mastery so you wouldn’t have to look at the boyfriend posts if you hate them. There has to be a way to include all users and cater to each user’s specific wants and needs.

I have been talking to a few members, and both brought up valid points. One mentioned “the ideas people have here, the ideas that people post, are only being posted to get it out there”.. I judge someone off what they aspire to do, not the mistakes or victories of their past. How many HEthens walk the line of their beliefs? Far too few.

Another said.. “I think I may back off the discussions for a while (people don’t seem to respond as much anyway) and instead stay on the lookout for like minded folks I can talk to in private messages or outside of this site.

One thing that makes me wanna stick around is hoping I’ll meet conscious people near me.” We need simple updates, which I have no doubt are already in the works, we need a “facebook” chat feature, where you can see a discussion going on, find someone you want to connect or interrogate, and be able to one on one chat, while the iron is still hot, without derailing the conversation from the main point. While some would see this as a reduction to the thread, missing some of the essence of the thread for others to build on, I see it as streamlining and being able to make a real connection. I cannot say how many times I have wanted to send a personal message, only to continue reading the thread and forget exactly what I wanted to ask.

I think the main advancement of the site – the coding, the updating of things, and so forth (of which dozens of ideas have been pitched) is completely stagnant.

In otherwords… High existence 2.0 or 3.0 whatever it is now, looks like its going to stay this way for some time. If thats the case, I wouldn’t expect many more participants without events and other campaigns to increase awareness.

Summation: Improve the site, or create an event.

Thats it.

Don’t do it and expect stagnant numbers and the same ideas being regurgitated.

@ijesuschrist, Couldn’t agree more. What are some of your ideas on events?

[Hidden]
Anonymous (2,654) (@) 8 years, 3 months ago ago

@ijesuschrist, @vanguard,

HE should be updated because now it’s stagnant and only a change of design of the site will solve the world’s problems and everyone is going to be magically changed.

WE HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS AS USERS, IT DOESN’T DEPEND ON US, IT’S THE COLORS OF A WEBSITE

I heard you guys love sarcasm and shit.

@beyond, Yeah. Your negative attitude is getting annoying. Shut up Sasho. Go link some videos about some bullshit you think matters. We are trying to have a real discussion here.

Back to bringing this on topic with the petty bullshit aside. How do we improve the site?

Bonds are build when a group or individual can create a mutual interest to grow a direction,- it is the sacret law of natural law. Rules for deviding the power that can be created upon a mind of equal steering, influence – it is the start of something new when the group can determine a lifetime taxation for a single or devided purpose of creating wealth, influence from the olde way of thinking and in new times it could be possibly be a fund … @vanguard,

create a set of rules for interaction, build a base and grow together

Well I haven’t read the whole thing, but focusing on the problem with too many ‘boyfriend’ and ‘can i get a dub’ posts, as well as trolling, we can look to how other discussion-based websites have solved the problem. The forum-types seem to deal with it through categories, stickies, and moderators. I don’t like centralizing authority, so we could try a community-type moderation, where the little heart buttons have more purpose and effects. Maybe posts that enough people like enough stay stickied at the top of the discussion ticker. And something like an x button for voting down the post. Mean, condescending, troll, spam, etc posts would simply take enough negative votes to be removed. They could also have the youtube show/hide comment thing, if it’s particularly bad.

I also agree with all the location-based stuff.

I know nothing of the technical side, but a change in format to something that looks more like the classic internet forum could help. It would prevent spam posts from making the good ones disappear. And there could be sub-forums, just a more robust way to categorize discussions than how it’s currently done, so maybe there’s a special sub-forum for cosplay that isn’t seen on the homepage. Or the amount of posts that display on the current homepage could simply be increased.

The one thing that bothers me most is the petty fights instigated by the same people, which completely derail posts and reduce us to bickering children. Being able to downvote and disappear comments might fix this, but then what if people start abusing it… and so on.

Unrelated, what does the title of the thread mean? I googled “lion turned child” and the first result was this discussion..I was expecting a bob dylan song

Well look at this.

@ijesuschrist
, As usual, delusional.

@vanguard
, I can’t stand you so, the fact that I annoy you means I’m doing a good job at it.

Do you want to improve the site? Improve your attitude.

And this sarcastic message I posted wasn’t even to offend anybody, it was to show you that it’s unnecessary to whine so much.

The question is, from your responses to my message, how can you change anything at all for the better?

What are your ideas for events? Why would anyone want to meet you at all? What’s the main idea here? I don’t feel like meeting whiny people.

The most active person on this site, yet you hate everyone.

An interesting combination. I wonder what Freud would say.

We could start a community journal…sending it to each other writing down our thoughts, our journeys, ideas.. Who knows maybe one day we could turn it into a book.

James Veritas (30) (@Vanguard) 8 years, 3 months ago ago

@ijesuschrist, A great point. He spends his entire day on here looking down and being negative. I don’t understand, with all the time spent on this site why he wouldn’t want to improve it. The simple fact that it goes unnoticed, or that we have become accustomed to it shows how far this site has fallen, and the work that has yet to be done.
