High on Meditation

I’ve been meditating daily for about six months and I’ve felt some incredible sensations. On the inhalation of my breath I feel as though my body is gaining energy and on the exhalation I feel as though I am melting away. Although this intense sensation is brief it feels very real. I find it difficult to keep my attention on the breath during this (because I’m thinking about how cool this is). I was wondering what others feel during meditation, does anybody feel high?

Very interesting. I guess it depends on what you concentrate on. I’ve been meditating also for about half a year, and one of the strongest sensations that I’ve had was feeling like my lung is a pump and my body the container. By focusing on my feet and hand a tingly sensation starts appearing, then after 10 to 20 minutes it starts to spread upword with every breath. So when breathing in this tingly feeling flows upward and stops or maybe flows back slightly when I exhale. With persistanceand if nothing interrupts me tis sensasion flows upward till it fills my whole body. Makign it go past the sholders is quite a chalange to me, when I get to the head Tt’s really difficult, but once I managed to just go with it, and when it filled my head, I just felt a spinning sensation and lost any point of refrence. I lost all bodily sensations and remained aware only of myself and my thoughts. Prety wild for something that can happen at ome lying on the couch. But I only managed to have this experience once. I guess you really need a clear head for something like this.

It’s weird how you describe it because I know exactly what you mean, but I always hold back from diving into the abyss of detachment.

I really gotta let go of the reigns, thanks for sharing this, I think it will give me the courage to try it.

I know exactly what you mean when you say “spinning sensation and lost reference point”. I’ve had that exact feeling its so strange, almost like floating around.

I did kundalini yoga about 2 months ago and had an experience where i felt a snake move up my spine and the out of my third eye and nearly after every session i would feel reasonably high haha but i also get that feeling from just sitting meditations but my experiences usually differ i tend to have super visual experiences like i can feel something so intensely that i can see it.

It depends very much on what kind of meditation you are practising and what your goals are. I’ve been meditating for 20 years and it is rare that anything mystical happens. Adyashanti says often that some people are just wired for mystical experiences – light shows, rushes of energy etc – and some are not. I’m not. My meditation practice is for one reason only – to wake up.
