how big of an impact do think this would have on our political system?

i wonder why nobody is talking about making the bid for president, the candidacy availability, becoming more open for people outside of the money power structure. personally, i think this would have a huge impact as more individuals, beyond the desire for power, can hold the highest office. surely money does not equal leadership worth?

@tine, Technically you can. However, you wouldn’t have the funds to promote yourself in the way those with money can, which is why the system seems like it was manufactured in a fashion that excludes all those who are not wealthy, or indebted to the wealthy.

I think we can be more effective through grassroots movements and community work. The higher you go in public office the more abstract the impact you have is. If you are working with the people in your direct community, the impact is there, you see it and you can improve on it.

What are you talking about? Hundreds of people “outside the money power structure” across the country run for presidency every election!

Do you ever hear about them?
No.
Why?
They have no money.

@donjaime23,

|| Do you ever hear about them?

right, and what i am suggesting is a political platform where money is distributed equally to all candidates to eliminate the same personality type from getting re-elected each time

agreed, i am suggesting a level financial playing field, giving more than money a chance to be elected

@tine, So…in other words, just give people money who want to run for president?

@donjaime23,

basically, it would of course be more complicated, but a tight restriction on money spent for campaigns would help to reduce the, [only if you have money can you run] problem, which, i do see as a problem.

@donjaime23,

and open up the pool of who can run to more than just a very small, 1% of the population,

this of course wont make it available to just anybody, but it will remove not being born into wealth as a prerequisite for becoming president

Who the fuck needs money?? I’m SOOOO SICK AND TIRED of hearing, “how does she make a living?” “How are u gunna get money for that?” Obviously we don’t have enough money as a political person, but how did Obama get all that hype? How about that HOPE poster for Obama? Through social media and art, u can promote someone. It’s about letting people hear about u. Hear how much better of a person u are than these elite political persons! Seriously! I’ve had it with our government. It’s time for a change and this being 2013, we need to think outside the box. FUCK MONEY. It needs to be done and there are ways around everything. I think if someone really wants to be in power, they need to show everyone what they have to offer.
