Krish Jagirdar (@koin3190) 10 years, 11 months ago

There many different types and ways to meditate. I’m sure many of the people in the community are no strangers to meditation. But you’ll find that there are many different ways to meditate. In hopes of finding a new and exciting meditation style, I’ve reached out to you.

So please instruct us.. how do YOU meditate?

I meditate in 3 ways, each serving a different purpose:
1) I go on walks in the morning with earplugs and after midnight (when it quiet) and just observe everything that’s happening without thinking about it. This one makes me feel ‘alive.’
2) The “classic” sit down, eyes-closed, focus on your breathing for 20 minutes meditation. This one makes me feel at peace as if looking at the world with fresh eyes.
3) Goal-oriented meditation, where I imagine my goals being achieved with as much detail as possible while also trying to FEEL the emotions I would be feeling in that moment. This one is my favorite because it’s fun and you feel really empowered and motivated afterward.

I definately should do your third one more often.

I focus almost all my meditation on shamatha, one pointed concentration, to increase my focus, well being, concentration, empathy and feeling alive-ness.

It’s so hard to meditate, I end up getting hypnagogic hallucinations instead! I try freeing my mind from anything at all, and trying to search for God. That’s my goal in my attempts …

If you are actively freeing your mind, your mind is not free of freeing.

I tried t meditate a few months back. I only meditated like 3 times, but at my third time, I reached REM is that normal? Now I am trying to start meditating everyday, using the focusing on my breath method….

@Martijn: Wow I just had a philosoraptor moment there.
From my source on meditation, one should come at a point that breathing wouldn’t even bother your attention. It’s so opposite the breathing method. :( I’m confused.

@AzT, no need for confusion, that’s just a different way of meditating. Everyone has something different that works for them. For instance I’ve tried Martijn’s method around 5 times and have just not gotten into it. I prefer the way you do it — concentrating so the breath is not a concern.

I either sprawl out and listen to music while using my visual imagination, or I use Tai Chi and get in touch with the movement of my body.

I just go somewhere quite for 10-30 minutes(depending on extra time available to me) and close my eyes, and try to empty my mind of everything and just exist.

@AzT The point of meditation, even focusing on the breat, is total awereness of everything that goes on with being, in that moment. The key to this, is not judging or condemning anything but just completely accept everything in that moment, because that is life, that is being. The judging is the ego and you are the one who sees the judging, not the judge itself. If you stop identifying with the breath, the breath won’t bother you anymore. Let go, accept and relax.

i close my eyes…i breathe in through my nose and out through my mouth…i clear my mind…when a thought begins to be created i say “silence”…this brings me back to a clear mind…

to me a clear mind is you knocking of the door to the spiritual world…listening is how you receive the information the spiritual world is giving back to you :D

your dreams is how the spiritual world passes the info back to you :D…keeping a dream journal you might find helpful :D
