How do you survive in this society?

Psyke (@Psyke) 8 years, 9 months ago

I’ve been wondering lately how, if in the society I live in now, I’m unhappy, how can I create a happy life? If what I want to be isn’t good enough, if everything I am is unfavored, if everything I believe is is frowned upon not because it’s bad but because its different, how can I truly be happy? How is it that everyone else can be so content and joyous in a hell like this one?

@psyke, its all in our head. aim in the (guestimated) right direction and press fire. short term happiness through immediate actions or (supposed) long term happiness through goals. the middle ground between long and short term is numbness.

Don’t worry about what is “favored.” You are your own self on your own path. Don’t base your happiness on what others think of you. Your true, real happiness comes from within. Life unfolds in moments. Happiness in life is determined by how you deal with these moments now. Don’t worry about the past or future. Because you are here now.

I like to think of life as a circle. Some people think of life as a windy road with obstacles and are scared by what the end of the road will bring. Or they think they know where they are going only to find themselves lost later on. When you turn this windy road into a giant loop, you realize the importance of where you are now. Where you’ve been and where you are going points to your location on the circle of life.

So if you focus on the present, and keep in mind that life unfolds in moments, you will be able to appreciate life more. You won’t need to worry about the consequences of your actions or whether your actions will be “favored” by people around you.

Selfish desires and self pity will bring you down. Suppress your greed and open yourself up to the infinite sources of happiness around you. Soak it up, and share it. Focus on the present and be a source of positive energy for the people around you.

@psyke, That’s the thing; everyone is different, to some conformity is easier, to others it isn’t, it is about perspective. Fewer people are joyous or content as you think, but that comes from how you feel about yourself; sensing where you need to use discipline over your impulses and consider the situation versus where there are no significant consequences.

It becomes about intent; if you can respect your intentions in each situation then you can respect yourself, even when you are wrong, and it becomes easier to live in your skin. You can make suggestions to people but it is up to them if they listen, their failures shouldn’t jade you and nor should your own, your personal accountability only goes so far until it becomes irrational.

You are allowed to enjoy yourself, a doom and gloom outlook doesn’t solve anything, it is just dangerous to you and those around you, you can too easily fall into the apathetic culture and just become part of the problem, another symptom of the disease.

@psyke, Spend a night in jail. This won’t seem like hell anymore.

@donjaime23, Lol, after doing that blowing bubbles will mean something entirely different…

@psyke, There’s some good research on happiness now, so that might be worth looking into. Three things that have helped me create a sustainable, enjoyable life:

1. Find a way to get along while you work on other things. If you need to find yourself or write a novel or whatever, create a lifestyle that does not totally suck your soul, time, and enthusiasm, but still pays your bills. Live simply and prioritize making time for other things. Eventually you’ll be able to align your interests with a paycheck; for now, you might have to do it on the side. Things like bartending can be good because it’s relatively few (flexible) hours for decent pay.

2. Create structures in your life. It’s easy to float, semi-motivated through life with hopes and dreams and ideas that never seem to make progress. If you want to make films, join a group that forces you to set goals every week, and align yourself with other filmmakers who can volunteer or barter to help you make your films, and give you feedback and mentoring. That’s just one example, but the point is that it’s almost impossible to get significant things done without a) other people, b) a deadline, and c) a supporting framework.

3. Experience transcendence. It’s important to participate in things that get you out of your small, ego-centered nook. For some people it’s drugs, others it’s the awesomeness of nature. Personally, I have found it through movement and also spiritual/energy study and practice. The important thing is that you get some perspective on yourself and what’s important in life instead of going around and around in circles.

Good luck. As they say…”It gets better!”

To whom it may concern:

Attention ladies and gentlemen,
A new world worder is acting as a converter.

Listen up all you preachers, and all you teachers,
All us stoners and hoes.
All you people in lows.

True fulfillment is not hard to find.

This is the freedom flow repo.
This is taking and recycling the trees yo.
This is where the grease goes,
This is it.

This is what’s worth taking time, in order to find time for.
Maybe one or three or five or more.
It’s primetime.

I do not come to preach. I come to prophesize.

Open your eyes, and record my thoughts.
Drop the disguise, and reward the box.
Tune in, turn on, and drop out.
Timothy Leary, couldn’t come near we,
All action, with a little flawed theory.

Everyone has a gift. That gift is freedom.

Martin Luther King, he came to teach. And his message got transferred from learning to preach. So I won’t chastise you for misunderstanding me…
Just give me a reason, a reason to be.

This is realizing something needs to be done.
To begin again at the beginning.

Smoke weed every day, if that’s your way,
Or you can just do your thing and make your pay.
Throwing bills down, just to pay your bills.
MeanWhile, insurance companies make their cheap thrills.

If you wanna talk to me about Jesus,
or if your Koran completes us;

nigga you best come to me.
With real ideas and reasons for treason,

Coming right through can’t believe what I’m dreaming.

Tryin’ to play the game,
Do it without shame,
Just be honest with yourself and everyone else.

Sometimes ya gotta get laid.

But at the end of the day nigga’s gotta get paid.

Yes I do say nigga. Not nigger..

And no I’m not racist,
The negative undertone undermines the realistic will to define yourself.
I’m just makin’ reality real,
With some brand new feel.

Things are the same, but slightly different,
If you’re playin’ the game, strive to stay with it.
You know what you need,
You need what you want,
Just keep up your speed
And don’t fucking flaunt.

Basic chemistry says, it makes ya happy…
But things are “bad” and that’s just sappy.

So as long as we’re content with not bettering our lives;
that is okay with the system that we are accustomed to.

When you burn in the bush,
Intentions with Kush,
It will help you sleep, sleep.

Don’t get stoned to live,
Cause you’ve got to give.
Just let it weep, weep.

Stick to the natural, avoid catastrophic-actual.
It’s not just us, us.

We are powerful, we bring about our bull,
True love is not the past.

It’s not what you do it’s how you do it.

You will metaphorically fry,
Now that intentions are clear,
Live to get high.
But don’t live in fear.
You can heal Jude
Do it through laughter and food.
And you could heal you,
If you just knew.

Have real human moments,
And just take the time,
To make the difference,
And bust out a rhyme.

Cause there’s a rhyme and reason for every season.
Fantabulous rap extravaganza ain’t no coinci-stanza.
I tear words down and reconstruct my-landa.
Do you understand-a?
If fake incomplete words bother you, you better take the time to figure out why.

The masters of the universe wish.
To impose a willful learned ignorance.
In the hopes of satisfying you with a life lived “average”.

Need not humanity strive to be average, for it is too late for that.
That ain’t where we at.

If you wanna be real, and if you want to stay.
Don’t live for tomorrow, fuckin’ dream today.

At the end of the day it’s just how you play…
Just make a difference and do it today.

The love that you make equals the love that you take,
AND don’t take this too seriously,
Cause seriously, you’ll see,
Not just you, not just me
make it out to be, more than just you and me.

It’s instinctual.

And it can be, a world that’s free.
With peace, and love, and generosity,
But without showing our humanity, what will we be?

Who else can do it but the trees?
That’s why you’ve got to say please.
Please and thank you,

Now YOU just go back to YOUR rank, YOU,
Stay in line.
Just like that.
That’s quite fine.
Great, thanks.

GET IT back to nature in some kind of way,
Whether it’s music or art or learning to play,

WE NEED to focus more on teaching tolerance, embracing individuality, nurturing creativity, and striving to understand things or ideas we are ignorant of.

Curiosity killed the cat, but once that shit’s dead, that is that.

And on that second life, 8 more to go, got another shot, just put on a show.
Three strikes, all it should take. Under, over, done.
But that’s not life.

You shouldn’t have to strike out to lose. You should have to strike out to find a way that works.
You should choose whose views to use. Don’t let nobody tell you what hurts. But teach them. They are people too.

Let dues be dues.

The people up high may be wack,
But we’re fuckin’ taking it back,

So just sit back and relax,
Figure out where we at.

Take a blunt to the face,
No matter your race.

If that ain’t your thing,

But talk about real issues, and ways to change em.
If nobody thinks, how can we name them?
If abilities are real, how can we change them?
If minds are weak, how can we regain them?

Do you want to tell your kids not to cuss,?
Don’t tell them they’ll be eternally DAMNed for cussing.
But if MY God ain’t your thing,
prepare your ideas cuz I’m ready to sing.

Peace, Love, and Understanding. Among others.
We’re all brothers.
Or sisters,
It’s ALL relative.
We’re not done with it, and the beat goes on.
Collapse the current paradigm.

Stop bitching, start a revolution.
No, clean up your act and start polluting.

Positive pollution is the easiest way to corrupt the institution.
You inspire me, and I’ll inspire you.
Just be a Jew and I’ll not jew you,

We’re not done.
But we’re getting there.

Just laugh it off.

Also. Practice gratitude. Be thankful for the things that you have that many do not. Something as small as a smile can make a big difference in someone’s day. Perhaps you could find some way to promote healing yourself by helping others?

LiveItLoveIt (16) (@liveitloveit) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

Aim to inspire, love, and above all let the essence of who you are and who you want to be shine through. Find not the lifestyle you have been presented with, but one that works for you and what makes sense to you. Create your own existence based around what you truly value, and therein you will find peace. Happiness is not some place we arrive at, it is simply the manner of traveling.

@psyke, Why do you think this is a hell? Do you think you will be unhappy if people frown upon what you do if it is different? I sometimes feel anger too. But you cannot force people to see what you see. You CAN do what you want to do, and build up the mental strength and capability to not react with anger when people disagree with what you do. With time, you can maintain calm, do what you do, and be happy doing what you want to do. In the end, if you decide to be calm and happy, no external circumstance can make you angry/sad. Yes it is easier when people agree with you. But maybe through this challenge of being different you will learn, grow, and become internally stronger. After this you will be able to be happy wherever you are, whatever is happening around you. I am doing the same thing. My advice is Meditate. Take time everyday to contemplate. I would like to discuss stuff more with you if you would care to message me. I also find much fear in my heart when I dare to be different so that I can be happy. I feel it right now. I feel it even when I am an open book.
