How to identify and overcome limiting beliefs?

Anonymous (@) 7 years, 5 months ago

Lately I’ve been researching belief systems, specifically how we as adults exhibit self-sabotaging behavior due to a repressed memory or belief embedded deep in the subconscious. It could be rooted from when you were bullied in 4th grade or you that you have a fear or negative belief about money due to your upbringing. Regardless of what that belief may be, the result is debilitating and it holds us back from achieving whatever it is that needs achieving…

I have recently started performing meditation and visualization/manifestation techniques in the spirit of “the law of attraction” in efforts to improve the quality of my life and take control of my future. It occurs to me that these two principles affect each other significantly and the former must be overcome to have true success in achieving what you truly desire.

My question is, as indicated in the title: How do you identify and overcome these limiting beliefs that hold us back from achieving greatness?

Have you ever heard of dreams being a form of self therapy? That when we dream we conjure up those suppressed thoughts and emotions from our subconscious and are able to confront them? I believe people can do this same process, consciously, through meditation – e.g. access and confront what we’ve subconsciously suppressed.

Practicing meditation regularly, during which you acknowledge and confront those repressed memories and beliefs, each time letting more and more of them go, should eventually allow them to dissolve into nothing. After that happens you should have an overall better mindset and a sense of inner peace.

You have to begin to understand that you should never limit your minds ability to create or be free. Limiting beliefs; certain religions do not allow you to speak to others, do not allow you to be intimate, do not allow you to live with certain people, so anything that disallows you to connect with people, to connect with nature, to connect with consciousness is a limiting belief. You can only find this and understand it by seeing and studying the different virtues of beliefs and establishing what will make your being, stronger, kinder, most absorbent of not only the good but especially the bad to never allow yourself to be limited, yet only refract anything negative with understanding and positive thoughts or actions.

Thank you for the insightful responses. The point that I am still struggling to understand is how to actually identify these subconscious beliefs so I can take the proper steps to remedy them. I have made some progress through epiphanies while under the influence of psychedelics but that seems like a more random experience, not calculated to achieve a desired result.

I do feel meditation has helped my focus and patience but I haven’t been able to make any progress toward uncovering limiting beliefs, possibly due to my so far novice abilities.
