How does one actually listen without wanting to butt in with advice all the time…what’s with this need to talk ?self-validation? Strong belief that one is right?

?? Are you suggesting you have never been in a conversation in which advice has to be included? Sounds like your dwelling into specifics, the need to talk is because humans are very social beings you should know you’re expressing an opinion right now. Advice is to help you doesn’t have to be about self-validation or even the fact one is right simply to confort annoy you. Human emotions and modivations are too broad i dont even know why im saying this your not making any sense.

@lastunicorn, yeah probably self validation and wanting to look smart.

Well it could be that someone responds or “butts in” as you call it because they want to carry on a conversation about the topic.

@lastunicorn, a lot of people don’t even realize that they interrupt. Once I was dating someone who used to cut me off all the time and I finally told him how much it bothered me and he stopped once he was aware of it.
