Tell me some ways that money has screwed over you personally or society as a whole. It’s been on my mind recently because of my summer arrangements falling through, so I can vent about this right now with ease.
@lytning91 I hate the it stops me from doing what I really want to do. Like I mentioned to you before I use every spare penny to travel, and would obviously love to do it more. I hate that my country is being run a group of people who’s sole concern is money. And I hate that money can buy people, that it can literally make people forget their morals.
I’ve had a little thought though. Surely if I really really wanted to and was inventive enough I could travel the world with next to no money? I know people have done it before.
@siantastic, yes that’s true you might would be able to get away with traveling very cheaply. But then that doubt starts to creep in…what if you get lost and need money to get back, what if you get stuck somewhere, homeless, and without any food…
It’s so ingrained in my mind to worry about where my income will be because everyone else is ok with seeing money as such a grand thing. I wish that people could just do what they wanted and work with people for those things. I’d love to have a system where people could just trade items/services for item/services. That’d be dope, because then people could be more personal about their transactions.
@lytning91 Yeah exactly. Many times in my life I have been without money when I’ve needed it and it is a horrible feeling… Having that feeling when in a foreign country could just be too much of an uncomfortable feeling.
Ah I dream of a society or community where trading without money is standard. When I was a kid though my mum was part of the Baha’i Faith for a short period of time and they would publish a monthly news letter and it had a list of things that people could do or make and what they would like in return. I got some maths tutoring in exchange for a garden design! We didn’t do that for long though as my mum found her faith elsewhere.
Hate is a big word and something I rather not have. but I do dislike money allot. if there would be one thing on this world I could change it would be getting rid of money.
do we really need money to survive? maybe I guess I watched the movie into the wild to much but I say it is possible (when your not needy) :)
@aneris, Technically no, but I use it and take advantage of it and I’m not scared to make money. Do you need money? I hope you’d say the same. If you have a computer, you probably bought it with money. If you live in a house, you probably bought it with money. If you eat food, you probably bought it with money. etc… It’s kind of selfish to talk about how money sucks when you have enough to get by, when people around the world would kill to be in our spot. But if you don’t go to such an extreme as to convince yourself that money is evil, it isn’t bad.
OK, yo can be overly critical about the generalization, but no one here is dense enough to not realize that by saying one hates money that they are obviously referencing the dependency that people have on it to live.
I hate money because I am forced to use it in order to have other people help me live, versus being able to help myself. I understand that there are methods of getting around part of this, but as long as money still exists in our world, it will still carry an uncomfortable weight. As long as it is around, we need to have a source for it, even if we are trying to be independent of it.
@aneris, attribute whatever meaning to it you want. “Hate” is as strong a word as “mustard” is as strong a word as “bunny”: it is subjective to the user. I, personally, choose to not tie myself down with such matters so I say again, I hate money.
@searchingforthetruth, your saying its harder to survive on the nature the world provides us then on something man created.
to answer your question: no I don’t have a farm. but if i would choose to surviving in the wild would be the best thing ever happening to me and i would try the rest of my life being good at it too. back to basic man. poor people can do it, animals do it. just because we are spoiled with money doesn’t mean we lost the cave man’s in side us.
“If you really want something in life you need to reach out and grab it”
@mikeyw829, spare me your condescension. Seriously, I’m not the first person to comment on this common ground issue and your willingness to encroach on my opinion is just rude.
Money sucks, and there is nothing that I can do to make it go away. Like I said, I have no choices in the matter as far as I see it, and it’s more like a catch 22 than simply a ‘either/or.’
Once more, I repeat, I hate money.
@mikeyw829, I admin i’m spoiled with money. I was lucky i was born in a normal class family and a good country to work in. offcourse it is selfish to say you dont want to need money when your using it. offcourse its selfish to sit here and have everything while others have nothing.
@mikeyw829 You say ‘just stop using money or stop hating it’ the same way someone would say ‘change your job or stop moaning about it’, but yet you admit that it is part of society and we have no choice over what society we are born into. Yes we could stop using but it is clearly not that easy. Our governments do everything in their power to make it difficult for people to be self-sufficient, after all… What do they get out of that?
Sadly to become self-sufficient I am going to need a lump sum of money behind me (although I am always on the hunt for other options) and I’m working on it. But in the mean time I’m probably going to bitch and moan about it.
I think it is harder..considering our species has destroyed many natural resources…and there are there are just so many of us. Money right now…is the only way our society can sustain 7 billion people I think. It’s the only way..right now, we have a chance at having abundance.
@siantastic, thank you for your enlightened perception. Did you catch that post that @bigred made about creating a society of close-knit people who just sorta Amish their way through life, only not Amish at all? It’s worth looking at because you get this really cool feeling, imaging people of like mind getting together and just trying to live naturally. Getting back in touch with this side of life seems so distant, yet some close and comfortable at the same time
@siantastic was enlightened, @mikeyw829, because of her ability to comment on your “take it or leave it” opinion in a way that was much more comprehensible than I could at the time, not simply because she ‘agrees’ with me (there you go again with that condescension). I appreciated the response she gave to you about your post. I told you I disagreed but didn’t have a great way of explaining why. Why don’t you stop assuming what I meant and acting as if I am trying to attack you. You came here to post on my topic of interest, not the other way around. You WERE being rude in my eyes because of the tone you used, not because you just disagree. You are being rude again by putting words in my mouth in regards to what I meant when I said something.
@siantastic, it would be SO legit. He was talking about some guy having a space for it and everything. It would be the opportunity of a lifetime to actually have enough momentum to make something like that work.
