Cards on the table, I’ve been feeling like crap lately, and I’m completely to blame for it. I’ve been indulging myself too much in student life as of late. I’ve been on a bender for a month; lots of alcohol, marijuana, MDMA and an incredibly poor diet. As a result, I constantly feel like I’m out of energy (I’ve been sleeping a LOT) and have been unable to shake off this flu I’ve had for a while now. It’s been amazing, I’m not going to lie (had some of my best nights out ever these past weeks), but I just want to get my shit together now and was hoping for some advice.
The biggest problem for me is food. Student budget (and, to be honest, laziness) has resulted in me rarely having 3 meals a day, and generally living off of carbs and junk food. I’m hitting the supermarket tomorrow to stock up, and would love some recommendations for meals/daily diet and such to help me get healthy and on the ball again.
Exercise isn’t really a problem for me. I hit the rock climbing gym 3-5 times a week. I just feel like if I give myself a somewhat strict diet for the next couple weeks, I’ll be feeling awesome again in no time. I’ve no experience with this though, and am pretty scarce on knowledge about diet hence this post. Think you can help me?
I am trying to reboot my body today actually too. I bought some supplements yesterday to help- Vitamin d, fish oil, and a greens supplement..but thats not really neccessary if you are really going to focus on your diet.
This is my strategy : I just drank a giant glass of water with a bunch of fresh lemon which I’m going to do all day because lemons alkalize the acidity in the body. Eat a ton of green vegetables and steam them fresh with garlic and salt/pepper for at least one of your meals each day. Eggs and greek yogurt are great sources of protein and fat and are both cheap and easy to make. If you don’t want the kind with added fruit and sugar I would get berries and agave nectar to sweeten plain greek yogurt. But the better brands with the natural sweeteners aren’t going to kill you.
Good luck : )
@danryan, Eat anything you would find naturally in the wild and try and cook it with as little additives as possible. Things like fish, nuts vegetables, fruits, berries. If you ‘re looking for cheap meat that is great for you and easy to prepare, go for tuna. Its lean meat, has lots of protein and super cheap and easy to make! It also comes in 88 cent a can so its already cooked and everything. Also, try tea of oregano. It’s a great body cleanser, it’s one of the herbs with the most antioxidants in the world and has added anti-fungal/anti-bacterial properties to it. It’ll give you the detox you need. Cheers mate , good luck!
There are tons of lists on the internet of nature’s “super foods” you can purchase at a supermarket. Blend a large batch of a super food smoothie at the beginning of the week, freeze it and thaw it each morning for a breakfast to save time. You can get in your day’s worth of vitamins, minerals, fruits and vegetables in the morning. It will effect you positively in ways you never realized, the whites of your eyes will become whiter, your skin will become more clear and start to glow, things will begin to taste and smell better and you will have much more energy. An example of a good smoothie recipe might include baby spinach, banana, berries (rasberries, strawberries, blueberries), fresh ginger root, plain greek yogurt, green tea, and pomegranate juice.
When i need some good food energy.. I like to focus on foods that are high in protein, and are low on saturated fat. Like, beans, tuna, greek yogurt, nuts, quinoa, and lots of fruits and veggies… Oh and drinking some nice cold water can do wonders as well.
Try to focus on eating real food, even if it’s not organic, going for food where you’re not reading ingredients off a list would be amazing! Pre planning your meals + snacks for the week is another great start. Eating 6 meals a day, in appropriate portions is also helpful in making sure you are never hungry or overly full. Try to be more active in taking regular changes in your life, like taking the stairs, parking further away to get a little bit of a walk in getting to where ever you go. Drink waterrrrrrr and lots of it! I’ve recently started drinking at least 2L of water a day, and it feel’s so great! You can even loose a little bit of “water weight” by doing it :) Try hitting the gym 3-5 times a week for an hour. Or make a workout playlist on youtube and do those a couple times a week. … sorry those tips are disorganized but I just wrote stuff that came off the top of my head :) that’s just my two cents, Good Luck!
@thebuddha, Saturated fat is great for the human body. Don’t be deceived by big corporations that sell you processed plant oils because they’re profitable. Do some research of your own on that. We evolved to eat animal fats, not soybean oil extracted with hexane.
@danryan, Eat lots of green leaves…seriously. Kale is incredibly healthy. It’s considered the healthiest green on the planet by some researchers. Then add some spinach, arugula, broccoli, and you have a mighty combo for rebooting your health.
I’d also recommend grass fed butter, coconut oil, and plenty of meats. Don’t overdo it on the fruit though.
@danryan, i too have run into energy problems due to mdma etc etc, basically the m burns up all of your chemicals, but most importantly and often overlooked is how it burns up your sexual energy, mdma and most other euphoric substance feel so good because they untap your sexual energy and send it up the spine into the brain and throughout your aura, after a while all of your juices get used up and you feel burnt out. quit having any ejaculations for a couple weeks while you load up on natural energy and fruit etc and youll revitalize your entire electrical system, youll get a bit tense after a few days but fight through it and let that energy flow to the brain.
Try to find a local butcher/farmer that sells organic grass-fed meat, its usually not much more expensive than stuff you get in the supermarket and its a million times better for you. Also try get some organic green veggies, like spinach or broccoli. Eggs and organ meats are awesome also. I would try to avoid the supermarket in general. You can use the money you’re not spending on weed etc. to buy quality food, I promise you its worth it a thousand times over.
Stick to meat and veggies as well as some fish(if you can get wild, avoid farmed), berries and nuts. You wanna keep carbs low while you adjust to using fat as a primary source of energy. That’s another thing. Eat plenty of fat, particularly good animal fats, its what you are biologically designed to eat, and makes you feel like a fucking boss. Cooking in Kerrygold butter (its made from grassfed cows) is good, even better is eating raw if you can stomach it. You also may wanna take it easy on the rock-climbing for the first couple weeks while you adjust to the changes. But after that, you’ll have more energy than you ever thought possible, sleep better, and become leaner, stronger and healthier than ever.
This is probably information overload now, but if you wanna learn more about this stuff, read Primal Body, Primal Mind by Nora Gedgaudas. Hands down the best health (and most life-changing) book I’ve ever read. You have no idea how much of an impact your health has on your overall happiness. Good luck.
PS If you haven’t already, give up porn and masturbation, and look into semen retention as well. That shit has healing powers that will blow your mind.
