It's Your Turn

How did you feel when you woke up this morning? Tired? Groggy? Ready for another amazing day of being alive? If your answer was #3, then stop reading right now. You’re pretty much enlightened. I ask this question on the 2nd day of 2014 because we all hear so many positive ideas and thoughts from people every New Year’s, but inevitably most of these dreams seem to go undreamt. I’ve stepped on myself enough to know what it looks like and I hate to see others do it to themselves. There are others out there perfectly willing to step on you. Pleasantries be damned. Say what you mean.

Today, do something you want to do. Write a song. Craft a story. Go on a road trip! Do anything, as long as it’s one of those passions that holds you securely in the moment making nothing else matter. Don’t let anyone, including yourself, take this away. The “responsibilities” we all use as excuses can wait. You may be very lucky, very smart, or even a dangerous combination of both; but there will always be a job, or a meeting, or a flight to catch. We do these things to stay alive. Remember to pick the fruits of your work.

Love what you do. Do what you love. Live by these statements and you will go places you have never gone before. It might be new and scary and uncomfortable, but you will never look back questioning whether you should have taken a chance. You already did. Damn the pleasantries.

i’d say the happiest life is the self-interested one.

this doesn’t condone wanton selfishness, but then we all cater for our interests above all.
