I have been doing alot of juicing, and juice fasting. I wanted to share this for a few reasons:
1. It’s hella good, and RAW, easiest way to get my fruits and veggies.
2. It has motivated me to buy organic produce from the farmers market frequently, therefore supporting the local community rather than the commercial market.
3. It’s not too expensive considering the nutritional density.
Today I got pretty gnarly with it. 20 bucks got me oranges, apples, cilantro, cucumber, cactus, mixed greens, I also had spinach, key limes at home.
Tossed it all in, even threw in some aloe Vera Juice and cayenne. Crazy amazing energy!
I just started today, spent about 20 bucks on carrots, spinach, apples, oranges, tomatoes, strawberries…..didn’t really buy any unusual ingredients (not sure if i can get my hands on some cactus haha).
@heavydreamz, Do you add anything for protein? I’m going to be putting protein power in mine, as I feel like that will keep my muscles in good shape
@north, If you’re looking for a natural form of vegan protein, quinoa is high in protein and is a whole protein. Not juice, but it’s a great sub if you’re going vegetarian/vegan once you’re done your juice fast :)
@mowgli1 I didn’t think you’d need fibre before, but now that you mention it, that makes sense. You still have built up plaque/junk in your intestines that is blocking things up, and without fibre nothing’s going to move, and a lot of toxins won’t actually leave your body. So the juicing fast isn’t entirely cleansing, though it does have superb benefits otherwise. I recommend adding to your regimen a fibre powder or something, I use AIM brand herbal fibre blend to keep things clean, it’s amazing :D Just mix a tablespoon in water and down the hatch, tastes awful, but does the trick.
@north, That is a great question, I’ve been wondering about what the best way to get protein would be bc I have been eating meat only once a month. I was eating a lot of soy but now trying to replace that. I also consume raw buds and leaves which apparently has protein, not sure on that, might be only the seed. Cactus isn’t necessary, it gets gritty sometimes when you get creative, but always better than any energy drink!
@mowgli1, It is sometimes necessary ease into that kind of fasting. Try a 24 hour juice/smoothie fast. I do that once every week or two.
A lot of the time you can trust the farmers market (still wash with cold water) to juice the skin and all (oranges, melon) to maximise nutrition. Cucumbers have a lot of water content, so do lettuce and celery, etc. Carrots and beets produce a lot of juice. I would say follow intuition when buying stuff to juice, definitely get creative!
Just started today! So far so good. I’m taking some supplements as well. What helps is this current perspective: looking at solid food as if it’s poison. I’m completely ready for this juicing fast and excited to see what it would do to me mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. And I’ve realized that it’s not just to test my will power (if it’s only about an ego-based desire to test my will power I feel like I’ll just end up binging on food right after the fast).. it’s to do it because of its healing and detoxification purpose and to understand it. To understand my body. Most especially for a deeper spiritual connection. The goal is a week for now. It can definitely change as I am listening and feeling into what my body is telling me.
Reading The Yoga of Eating also helps a lot. Charles Eisenstein is now one of my favorite authors. Such a brilliant man.
Question: How often do you drink the juice?
