Kosta (@kosta33) 8 years, 10 months ago

stayed up until 1am last night studying for a test in sociology today. Half way thru my first class i had an epiphany and as i was looking around my classroom i felt a strong energy telling me school isn’t for me. Packed up my stuff, walked out before i even took the test and now my parents are kicking me out in May but i feel great and can really careless. now its time to travel:)

What can people do anymore without a college degree these days besides join the army, join a gang, or work for minimum wage or some other shitty salary (and go mental)?

Not that I’m trying to be a downer or materialist, but if the number one thing you want to buy is retirement, you won’t get there on $10 hourly.

@theskafish, You don’t need a degree to get a good job or make money. There are many other ways.

@kosta33, So I haven’t gone on here for a while now, and the moment i log on I see your post and immediately get drawn to it because I recently dropped out of college too. Crazy thing was that I made the same realization in my sociology class ( although I didn’t just stand up and walk out). I just thought it would be cool to share that with you. Hope your travels are amazing and you can finally live the life you want!

Finally someone who’s not afraid of life…I didn’t go to college because I don’t want to give my few (and best) years of youth to study some brainwashing…I don’t care about the f***ing piece of paper that “proves” my abilities, I’m able to walk, think and breathe, now why the f**k do I need paper? Because everyone have it? We are human beings, we are living right here, right now, we are doing great, we are remarkable, capable to think, understand and feel much deeper. The governments are trying to persuade us that we are not worthy without paper… I am sick of this and I’m doing the opposite. Guess what? I started to travel and I feel happiness all the time + I read books more than ever and I don’t watch TV…
Btw, I don’t understand your parents, how could they kick you out? =(

@TheSkaFish … Thinking that getting a good job and having money is what is so wrong with this place. Money is fake. Maybe it impacts you and I in very real ways such as well being in the physical presence on Earth but what is actually real? Happiness? Does having something fake make you happy? I would much rather have nothing and be happy, than have everything and be miserable. BUT, I guess that’s just your opinion mannn. Great jobs offer themselves to people who work hard and know their stuff, not just some people who read textbooks and have no common sense or real world experiences (obviously that’s ultra opinionated and biased on the majority of college students). I’m just saying, it doesn’t take a college degree to be accomplished and/or rich, in any sense of that word. If that is what you (anyone) believes, you need to open your eyes, or maybe you are just more comfortable keeping them shut…

@claynelson22, actually, I have my degree already. But I was asking the question because I don’t particularly want to use my degree, at least not in the way most people do. I COULD do it, but I would find that life very unpleasant (they will have to drag me kicking and screaming back to the cube fields).

As I said, it is not that I am a materialist. But I’d preferably like to do something that makes a lot of money so that I can retire early and have more of my most likely one and only existence to do as I like.

I did the exact same thing 2 month ago. I started business studies back in September, whilst knowing that my heart actually lies with drawing and painting and traveling and nourishing the creative kid inside me. I’ve honestly never felt like anything has tried to kill that kid as bad as these studies did. I like business up to a certain extent, but not to one of being surrounded by a bunch of mini-entrepreneurs, already competing on every part of life, and earning lots of money as being there n°1 goal in life.

These 2 months have been the best and most exciting ones of my life. This decision feels too right to be wrong. If something feels good and makes you happy, then there is nothing society can bring in against that (for the only reason that negativity will come along with a decision like this is purely out of jealousy).
I encourage every human being to pursue nothing but happiness.

Good for you! Life is about doing what makes you happy. If school is doing nothing but bringing down your spirit, by all means, you made the right decision!
